Default Need more speed...A4 vs MN6 or Z06?

The wife and I ran our first drags with an 03 and 04 auto coupes. No mods. We both ran 13.8 -13.9 10 or 12 times. We really had a blast! Of corse we didn't win. We had fun.
Anyway I got bit by a bug. Now I have this terrible need for speed. I was thinking of trading for a z06 so I could go faster. But there was an A4 with a few mods turing 12.2 Thats faster than a z06, isn't it? If you wanted to go faster, Would you buy a Z? Or mod the auto? What can you do to the Z to make it faster (if in truth it only does 12.8)?
I have a Z ready to buy at the end of the week. Can the Z be moded to do 11's?
Thanks for any and all advice!

If you can get out of your car and into the Z and be happy about the $$$$ difference then I would do it. But then again you can get your car to run low 12's even 11's on motor. Converter, gears, drag radials, headers and cam should get you in the low 12s easily. I have an 01 Z06 (the 385hp one) and with a Volant air intake setup and BFG drag radials it ran a 7.87 1/8th mile which translates to about a 12.2-12.4. Check in the Performance and Drag Racing forums and you can get an idea of what cars with different mods are running and it might help you make your choice. Good luck either way

As mentioned above gears headers and a high stall converter will do wonders for an A4. There have been a few A4s that have dipped into the 11s with the above mods in cool weather. With a good driver a Z06 can also dip into the 11s with a few mods like headers, gears and some tuning in cool weather. Both the A4 and the Z06 will run the 11s if you are willing to go to a more aggressive cam to go along with bolt on mods .

With just LT headers, cold air induction, tuning, catback and me driving our 00' A4 coupe 3.15/stock tc @ 275/40/17 sticky street tires on the rear has run a best to date of 12.47@111.91.
IMHO keep the coupes, enjoy the storage space, spend around $3K each in bolt ons to mod them

i had a 01 A4 coupe, and with just LT headers, air intake and Yank 3000 converter i got 12.4s on stock tires...but the feel of the ZO6 was just another level, however it took me multiple trips to the strip before i could match my sligthly modded A4 times with the stock ZO6...with just a cam the A4 would have been in the high 11s...the ZO6 hit high 11s after headers and air intake. But anything quicker required drag radials for both cars. You can make both cars equally fast!!!!
If you can afford taking a hit for your A4 and buying a ZO6 then do it.

Default Automatic is very nice to race with

Just added a Vig 3200 converter. Sunday night ran 12.346 @ 108.50 with a 60' of 1.706. And this was in Hot Houston with an air density Altitude of 2187'. Automatic is consistent at the track.

Mods: 3200 Vigilante Stall, MTI Air Bridge and Blackwing. Tires were 285 Nitto Drags. No other mods or changes. I was amazed. Without the Vig best time was still 12.843.

I love this car!

I'd keep the coupe & modify it. My '01 has a few mods (see sig below) and it's a LOW 11 sec. daily driven car, heck many agreed that on a cool fall day it would most likely be in the 10's!!

The only real "fear" I have with my power level (487rwhp) is the A4 may not last too long..... FEAR NOT .... you can upgrade that too!

The WW factor driving anyplace with the Vette's blower doing it's thing is PRICELESS. Just my .02, let us know which way you decide to go.

Oh yeah..... Glad you & the Mrs. both have the same hobby - THAT'S AWESOME!!!!
