I orignally intended to put a Y3000 in. Unforuntaly I was sent an FBody Y3000 and didn't find this out until my car was on the rack at the dealership. My only option was to have the only TC in stock(for several weeks) TT2800 overnighted to me. Anyway..onwards to my report. I have 2.73 gears, Stinger Intake/Exhaust + a Predator. Suprisingly with traction control off, from a dead stop, I still can't do anything besides chirp the tires. I'm running newish Dunlop Sport 9000's 285 wide and fairly sticky. You can definately feel the car coming out of the hole much stronger right on the postive edge of traction. I checked the dyno sheet from Yank on the TT2800. The average torque boost from 0-3500 RPM's(where 2.73 gears are complete dogs) is 28% which if multiplied by 2.73 *1.28 = 3.46. So basically I come out of the hole with 3.42 gearing and continue in 1st gear until 55 mph. So as you can see..that's a fairly huge first gear, I'm hoping for low 1.8xx to high 1.7xx 60' times without a big hole shot.
On to my driving impressions. This is where this converter really shines. This converter is quite possibly tighter than stock. The torque boost is so large that I can use less throttle to get going from a stop than before. Previously to get a 2.73 geared car moving enthusiastically from a stop you could tach as high as 3k rpms now the car is pulling hard at 2500 rpm or lower. I'd estimate that I've probably gained gas milage from this change. It's hard to tell at first because I'm getting into the gas alot more than normal which I'm sure is bringing my milage down.
So as for my opinion...this converter should have come in the car stock. It can't get any tighter and it really gives the 2.73's a kick in the pants. Oh on a side note....check with your local dealership on verter installs. Thunder racing quoted me $750, LG Motorsports said $500, and the dealership only charged me $425.
Great write up. Strange how things work out. It may turn out that TT2800 may actually work out better with your 2.73s than your original choice would have. Good luck at the drag strip.
