Default Vette / Viper

Last week I had a new Viper come up on me and while I almost didn't even try I said what the hell. Not a drag race but a fourth gear full throttle punch from about 80mph.
The Viper stayed with me but could not pass me. I was actually pulling away slightly until our speeds were up. Is this a realistic outcome or did I run into a bad driver/Viper.
The only mods I have on my 03 mn6 vert. are 4.10, Blackwing, kooks,High flow cats, corsa touring.
Dyno 333 rwhp 344 rwtq.

If the nw Viper your referring to is a 03, he has 500 HP and would prabaly dyno around 420 rwhp if he's stock....

A stock 03 Viper will run low 12's (12.3) with a normal driver......Some pros can put them in the 11's...

Your car has 333 rwhp wich equals out to around 380 crank hp..

With your mods Id guess your caris in the mid 12 range?????????

I can see this hapening.....He has roughly 100 more HP but his car weighs500 pounds more than yours...

So you make up 5 tenths right there.....Then with your more agressive gearing you could be pulling him till a certain speed...

How fast did you get up too???

I would think the 4.10's would die out arond 120 mph?????

I think its possible.
Laron, I agree with the points you made. You didn't mention that many viper guys with no racing experience will run high 12-low 13. I don't think 4.10's will die out at 120. On a 6 speed you will be able to pull 6th much better.

I never made it to 6th gear but made it to 5th. At 145mph and it was still pulling strong and the Viper was still int he miror.

Doesnt suprise me much. At the mini Vette-Viper shootout I went to @ Fontana on the 17th there were about a half dozen vipers (one srt, a pair of GTS, and a few RT-10's) that were turning mid 13's. There were also a few with little to no mods running high 11's low 12's. Also a 360 Modena running 14.0's. I know this is from a roll, but point being, there are a whole lot of people out there with very fast cars, that can drive to save their ***.

(On a side note, as soon as I find a place to host it, I got a vid of the Modena getting smoked by an AMG... Was pretty dam funny watching a stock 4 door pull a Ferrari by 5 cars lengths)

I ran in 5 Vette/Viper races this year (American Supercar series) so have some experience against Vipers on the track. The 450 HP Viper is more than a match for a stock Z06 - 2 to 3 tenths with equal drivers. The new model with 500 HP widens the gap. Your best chance in a race with one is to get them off the line; when they're rolling they pull very well with all that torque. Vipers are heavier but not by the 500 pounds that laron mentions - It's closer to 300 for a Z06 and more like 200 for a regular C5. At my last race (National Trails in Ohio) a 450 HP Viper with headers on BFG drag radials ran an 11.49 at 122 MPH.

Sorry...I tught that stock they were around 3800?????????

But yea they are nice......

That guy dropped a second with drags and headers...Pretty good.

Whay would the average Z06 run wth headers and drags...Im guessing 11.9?????

I think the reason he was in front was due to the gearing....

Sure some people cant drive and run 13's in there nw vipers...

But low to mid 13's is what we run with good drivers....

So the gearing must REALLY wake our car up.

A relative of mine has an 01 GTS with headers, air cleaner, full exhaust minus cats and has run a best of 12.3@117. I have a bone stock 02 Z06 that I have run a best of 12.5@114! If I had headers, no cats, and open air box I could take him, and I plan to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In my opinion, you beat the driver and not the car.
