To all you Mallett shifter users, how do you like them? If you have had others installed and now have the Mallett unit, how does it compare in terms of short throws and positive 2-3 shifts? Appreciate the help and thanks.
Joe
I have a Mallett shifter and like it. I haven't tried any of the other aftermarket shifters, so I can only compare it to stock. It's very smooth, and has none of the issues some of the other shifters have. (Difficult to get in reverse, vibration etc.) It is after all, a modifed stock shifter. I can't say that the throw is any shorter. If it is I didn't notice it. It is however, much better on the 2 to 3 shift. I bought mine at a good price used, so it was competitive with the other shifters on the market. If I had to pay full price, I'd probably go with something else. For double the price of the others, I doubt it's that much better.
Appreciate your response Greg, thanks. I also bought mine used at roughly have the new price. Don't think I would have bought it at the full price. I have had both the B&M and the Hurst so this will make for an interesting comparison.

Be sure to post your results, once you try it. Your the only person I know of that will have tried all three, so it would be nice to have your input. You don't see these for sale "used" very often, so the people that bought them at full price must like them.
For drag racing, I'd say try something else. However, road racing is a different story. Shifter has as a great feel and positive shifts. The diamond style top isn't ideal for banging gear IMO. I have no trouble with vibration or getting to reverse.

Well guys, I have the Mallett installed but have not been to the track with it as yet. IMHO, it is absolutely smoother than both the B&M and Hurst on the street. While the shift throws are not as short as either the B&M or Hurst, they are shorter than stock; it remains to be seen whether/how it will affect my times. As for noise, there is none...it is as quiet as the stock unit in this regard. As for vibration (there is none) or gear engagement like reverse, there is no problem; the shifter is repeatably precise. While I don't know exactly what Mallett does to make this shifter what it is, the base does look like a stock unit from an appearance point of view. As for the tear drop ****, I do prefer the Hurst **** that was on my Hurst unit. While I bought mine used, paying new price for it is a personal thing and will vary from owner to owner. I opt for quality when modding my car so if this shifter performs in my hands at the track (I am not the greatest driver), it might be worth the new price to you all out there.
