Details are a little vague as far as any other mods to the Stang. I'd guess w/ a procharger he's also gonna have exhaust/pulleys etc. maybe even heads, gears?

All else even, the 97 had lousy horsepower.
I knew a guy that had one with a Vortec and AFR heads and was pushing 7 psi and still only dyno'd 310/345 at the wheels. Our cars do close to that from the factory.

I wouldn't underestimate the Stang as they are cheap to mod and can be made Very Fast for peanuts.
Off the line I would guess you should have little to no trouble pulling away especially if he misses a shift.

At highway speeds he has the edge with the stick, but with your engine pulling atleast 100 more than his... stock for stock anyway, you should be able to pull away even though he's boosting a few psi more.
Again, guess work because a lot of details are missing for a better estimate.
And of course a lot will depend on driver skill. If he's not experienced, he's likely to spin his nuts off from a standing race.

If he has a drag setup and drag radials he will take you. The mustang do launch hard. I do have a buddy with a 99 with a procharger setup which is running low 10's with slicks. I would try to find out more details of his mods. If he has similar mods you do, you will smoke him. But never underestimate those mustangs

Whoever wins, one fact remains....He's driving home in a Mustang and you're driving home in a Vette. Heck I could make a Pinto fast

A SC'd A4 3.73 vette with a converter vs. a 6 speed Pro charged stang will not even be a contest.

If you have traction....you will put 3 car lengths on him before he hits second gear. You should continue to pull him after that. I don't see it as an issue at all.

Good traction with a good launch and you should be able to beat him. Good Traction is a must though. There was a guy out here with an A4 with just headers, Borla's and a converter running mid 11's on ET streets.

I used to race an SVT Cobra in the PSCA. Make sure he isn't running a serious drag suspension with a launch kit and 4.30 gears or sumthin. Peek underneath to see if he's using adjustable upper & lower control arms with maybe an air bladder and a reinforced differential cover. If he has a lot of serious launch hardware then you MIGHT have something to fear. Otherwise he's a typical GT nerd with a 300hp toad weighing nearly 2 tons.

I dont really think either of you is going to win since neither of you can probably hit 600mph much less 800 mph.
