Ok guys. I've talked to RPM and I have information for you. However, RPM is not a supporting vendor so I can't post anything else or the mods will delete it. If you are interested in the details. Send me a PM.
I can tell you that the rear suspension must come down to install this brace. For some of you, I know that'll be a deal-killer. For the rest of you, PM me and I'll fill you in.
Does the RPM brace have any bracing on the bottom of the diff?
No. I'm guessing, but I would say that it's because the differential torques over in the opposite direction. The bars on top keep the diff from pulling apart from the tranny. On the bottom, the diff is pushing towards the tranny under a heavy torque load. No need to reinforce that spot. Unless you're doing burnouts in reverse! Just kidding...
By the way, I base this on the fact that all the busted casings I have seen have had the top mounting points broken off. Never seen any break on the bottom. Again - just my opinion - but it makes sense in my head!
Here's my typical launch.[/URL] The car you hear winding up for a 6K launch is mine. A rear end with a lesser brace would not take too many of these...
What do you have for mods and what does it run? BTW, nice run.
Also, I have the DTE brace and have broken a stock output shaft in the diff on 16" cheater slicks. The track was merciless that day taking down a total of six Vettes. (Three output shafts, one tranny main output and two clutches. ).
Thanks. It's an '01 6-speed, heads/cam (from RPM as well, coincidentally ), 4.10 gears and all the other typical bolt-ons. Stock bottom end and water pump, though.
Unfortunately, these braces do not protect against broken output shafts. You better have a hardened one in there if you're going to race it. The brace simply helps to keep the gear casing from separating from the tranny, which in turn would take out your tranny main shaft. Been there, blah, blah, blah...

RPM had received only 9 requests to join the GP. They had decided to go ahead with 9 instead of the required 10 anyway. But when they started contacting the buyers, a couple backed out. If there is no more interest, this GP will not happen, unfortunately. Sorry guys...

That sux man. Hopefully a couple guys will take their spot soon! RPM will get my business anyway, at least they tried.
Can someone give me details on what exactly needs to be done to install this brace... including the time it takes for a DIY? Is a lift needed?
Dropping the rear suspension is what killed it for me, but I will reconsider it if it's not that much of a PITA. I assume a 4 wheel alinement is required after dropping the suspension???
I have looked into the RPM brace and have heard good reviews by some forum members running much faster than my stock Z. The RPM brace is only about 12lbs which is a bonus. Since DTE isn't offering a GP i'd be more than willing to go with the RPM.
There is a method to take over 6 lbs. out of the DTE Strut:
