Default Anyone enjoy old cameras?

I have a few old or unusual cameras handed down to me from my father. He was fairly active as an amateur photographer and brought me up around it. I remember, as a young boy, Daddy putting army blankets over the kitchen windows to make a dark room. We'd develop our own black and white film and make prints on an enlarger. Developer bath, stop bath, fixer bath then rinse and dry. I think. It was 60 years ago. I still have that enlarger, safety light, bath trays, film developing canisters and more.

Here's an old Olympus my Dad bought used while he served in Korea in 1951. I don't know how old the camera is but it was made in Occupied Japan, as noted on the back of the case. As you can see, time hasn't been kind to the old camera, nor was the trip back from Korea I suppose. But its special to me. I watched Dad take many pictures with it.

Using a rangefinder camera is an art in itself these days. I learned photography on a Kodak Motormatic rangefinder in the 60's, and I still have it. I don't think it works, but I never could part with it. When I started getting interested in photography, my Dad made a serious investment in a first gen Nikon F...which I used in college, and I still have, also (What is WRONG with me?).
Good luck.

I have, more or less, set aside my digital cameras and only shoot film. I love it so much more. I shoot with a Pentax 67s, Hasselblad 500c/m and a Leica M3. Film is not dead!

I still have my Pentax film camera which has taken some incredible shots for me via KodaChrome and Fuji Slide Film. I have evenings in the fall where it is very warm in the evening and I shoot my slides against the house where I can make them almost so huge they are life like. My neighbors come over and are amazed at the pics. The sharpness, and richness in colors get many more compliments than my digi pics. albiet my digi camera, a Pentax K10D has produced some very stunning pics. I have done both digi and slide and the slide produced much better clarity and color richness than the digi.
I saw something that Kodak was bringing back KodaChrome. If so I would be all in.

I still have these though I don't use them much, sometimes the Autocord more then the others. The SRT102 and 16QT were acquired during my time in Viet Nam.
The Autocord was given to me by a teacher who wanted to encourage the hobby, both the camera and the hobby are still going.

The oldest camera I have, is a mid-70s vintage, Canon AE-1. I believe it's still usable. I used to shoot a fair number of pictures, as I worked for Eastman Kodak, for over 30 years, therefore had easy access to getting the film processed, and pictures printed. However, after I retired, and lost that convenience, I eventually bought a digital camera, a Nikon D3000, and use it exclusively.

Just pulled my Nikon N2000 out of the closet. Discovered it still has a roll of film in it. Don’t even remember how long it’s been in there. Camera is at least 30 yrs old if I remember correctly, not as ancient as some here!
‘I wouldn’t even know where to get it developed these days!

Such a great camera. I love the photos, but just shooting with it is half the fun.

Unfortunately they'll never be able to bring it back because the developer no longer exists. They did just bring back Ektachrome, but that's a small consolation to getting Kodachrome back.

I do love my old cameras but I don't miss film. I resisted digital because the cameras were so.......cheap. Real men shot film. Real photographers shot slides.

Then I bought a Nikon D1. Then a D70. Then a D3. OK this digital stuff may not suck.

Still like the feel of my F.

Film truly has a look of its own! Something that cannot be replicated whether it be B&W or Fuji Velvia film. It's a process that still makes you think rather than just point and shoot! In this day and age of auto this and auto that I myself just get so much more enjoyment and satisfaction shooting film over DSLR.

My father bought this in Germany in 1951 when he was in the army stationed there.

I still use a Roller B35 regularly. This is a picture of my wife's Triumph taken with it about 3 months ago.
