I wanted some professional photos taken of my car and have found a photographer to take them for me. We have agreed on a location and she has told me her hourly rate. My question is should I plan on tipping once the session is over? My instincts say yes, but since this is the first time I have done something like this I wanted to check with experts here before I insult her.
I'd add something extra to the agreed price if I thought the end-product exceeded expectations. But I don't think a tip is necessarily expected for professional photographic services.

with this. That said I would also say it depends on a few factors. I guess kind of like most services....What was the scope of the shoot, what was the rate (in others words did they charge you market rate or below), did they include a travel fee, did they shoot longer than the agreed upon time, was it a good experience, did the quality exceed your expectations etc...
OP, can you tell us abit more about the shoot? Location, expectation, what they charged etc..? Not that those details will necessarily reflect if a tip is warranted but we can also tell you if you are getting a good value for the services.
Well the plan is to head just outside of town to get a desert backdrop. (Mountains, Cactus, etc...) So there isn't much travel involved. She said her rate is $125 per hour. I don't see any reason why it should take more than an hour. I am just looking for a handful of shots by someone who has the right equipment and an eye for photography. (I am not that person) So my expectation is we meet out there and she takes photos at various angles with maybe some creative lighting, nothing to complicated.
Did she state how many photos you would receive? The reason I am asking is pending on that answer and her quality it would relate back to your original question on if a Tip may be appropriate.

Well the photo shoot took place this morning. I think she took about 100 photos and basically said she would take anything I wanted. I’m supposed to have the photos back in a day or two. I felt comfortable and she was great to work with. She would show me from time to time what she was seeing through her camera. It’s amazing what the right equipment will do.
Yeah, if me, I would wait until I saw how quickly she produces these shots, the overall quality and artistic value, and basic communication.
If you are pleased beyond your expectations, "tip" accordingly.

I agree with Oh 2 Fun, wait and see what the finals look like and then if over your expectation then tipping (although still not technically necessary) I'm sure would be appreciated. Do you know yet how many final images you are going to receive and is she going to let you pick them?
