January 2024 photo contest - US History
Post your best two photos in separate post featuring anything related to US History. Can be from any period and does not have to be military related.
January was the Battle of Princeton, the first time we defeated the British.. On January 3, 1777, Washington snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and proved his amateur army could defeat the British.
Some examples, Washington Crossing Park

Photo I took a long time ago with Historical value from my hometown in Ticonderoga, NY. This shot from Mt. Defiance with its cannons pointed at Fort Ticonderoga (a strong hold in the French and Indian and then Revolutionary War).

There could be a little known bit of U S History in all of our towns we live in.
I'm trying to think of something in my little town I can take a picture of.

i am 10 min from washingtons headquarters but it is just a house and doesnt photograph that well. I am also about 2 hrs from americas oldest continuously running brewery but again it is just a brick building and doesnt look like much in a picture. I have an old pic of the twin towers memorial lights from about 20 years ago from the global terminal in NJ but the camera i had back then was awful.

The military was involved with most US history matters, kind of hard to exclude. There is a good bit of commercial history and inventions associated with the US.

I took this photo of the Christopher Columbus statue in downtown Los Angeles’ Grand Park in October 2017. The park is located in the space between the Los Angeles Superior Court’s Stanley Mosk Courthouse, the largest courthouse in the world, and also the Los Angeles County Hall of Administration, where the Board of Supervisors is based and meets.
The statue was erected around 40 years earlier. I noticed in 2017 that a chain link fence had been erected around it just around Columbus Day. This photo depicts the statue with the courthouse (and the court’s name) in the background. When I took the photo, I did not know that the statue’s days were numbered. The statute was removed in 2018 (see link below).

Lots of US sports history in NJ as well, not sure what is on these spots now to photograph, you can research, first baseball game (Hoboken), first college football game (Rutgers New Brunswick), first major bowl game ever played indoors (Atlantic City Convention Hall now known as Boardwalk Hall).
