Nice headline/subject...before I opened I thought this post is going to go in a very different direction! 
For me it 100% depends on what I am shooting and how long outside. I rarely shoot in the 10-4pm window outside as the sun is too high in the sky so on a "normal" shoot I usually wear a baseball cap no sunglasses. That said for shoots like last weekend (NHRA event) where I am outside for hours I wear a hat very similar to the one below which I can customize abit to give me a little more sun protection. In that case I also wear my Oakley Polarized Sunglasses...but only when I am not shooting.

I really don't like ball caps because of the stiff brim. I have a really beat up fedora, but thinking about getting a gilley hat like Rick posted
