My number is even lower than his, but I'm in a lower risk group and have 5 vehicles, my house, and umbrella policy all with the same company.

Sorry, went to bed shortly after I posted. I updated it after you replied (I wasn’t sure if you meant me or OP). I’m in AZ.

That's about the worst suggestion I've ever seen just to lower insurance rates (or, just about for anything). I'd gladly pay 500.00+/month car insurance not to have a spouse. Luckily, I only pay 250 for 2 cars.

Blood sucking :banghead: leeches...grr.

Divorced, 53, male, own a one-car garage townhouse with a 2017 Stingray and a 2018 Honda Accord. I pay about $1500.00 per year for full coverage on both vehicles with USAA. My Accord is my daily driver and the Stingray is a 'pleasure' vehicle that usually hibernates in the garage. I have one adult son who lives on his own and also has USAA.

They are pretty hard to beat (if you are eligible to join), especially if you have your banking, credit cards, life insurance and IRA with them as well.

P.S. I live in the northern suburbs of Richmond, VA.

Married 58 no kids at home, garage, clean record. Scottsdale AZ. 3 vehicles including the 2019 ZO-6 6000 miles a year. Breaks out to $80 a month. $1000.00 deductible 300/500K limits due to umbrella policy requirement. Dropped USAA and went with All State when USAA wanted crazy money to insure a Ferrari I had at the time.

Married 60, Kids are gone off on there own, live in the far outer burbs and have 3 vehicles with Western National. 2017 Z51 2LT, 2013 Black Diamond Avalanche LT Z51, 2007 Tahoe Z51 and with $500 deductible $150.00 per month. Agent says Age, Area and what you drive most helps on rates.

DuvalVette 05-12-2018 03:24 PM

I'm in a similar situation

30. No tickets or wrecks in the last 5 years. Jacksonville Fl. C7 Z51. $205 month with Geico. No house, spouse or kids. Jealous of all the good rates on this thread. Guess I'm gonna have to shop around again with you.

Where you live is a huge factor.

A few years ago I lived in Mississauga, right on the border of Oakville, so I was less than 5 miles from where I am now. At the time I was paying $300 a month for my Civic and the C5 I had at the time. Just by moving to Oakville my insurance dropped to $200 a month! And like I said, that move was less than 5 miles. It's funny how some insurance companies jack up the rates for specific cities.

I've been with USAA since 1969...... always had them for houses and cars, until 3 years ago when their prices for cars was WAY higher than several other companies. We've had NO tickets, NO accidents, NO (auto) claims.

I kept them on our house, and vacation home but went to Progressive for the Vette and Honda.

Each 6 months that came up for renewal, I would once again ping USAA...... more from an emotional standpoint, wanting to go back to them and have all insured items with them.

This time around..... 3 years later, March 2018, they finally became competitive again for our '17 GS and '17 Honda Pilot.

The Vette with a $250 deductible, $300k / $500k / $100k and several other perks runs $361 for 6 months

I just got a shock in the mail last week. Travelers must have given the C7 a new rate category. I have $500,000 bodily injury and property damage $500,000 uninsured, and $500 deductible. Was $55 a month and just went to $81. But that still sounds pretty good from what I have read above. I live in a rural area in northwest Ohio and 70yo.

Wow apparently I got a killer deal.

I’m around $85/month (prepaid the full year for an additional discount).
100/300 with UIM, glass, $500 deductible.
2014 3LT Z51 Coupe
Two vehicles, no house. 27, single, male, AZ

edit: Left State Farm (still had parents insurance for the discounts) and went to Amica. State Farm was competitive to everyone else, but Amica came in $400 cheaper a year.

It's always interesting to see how different states are with their approach to taxes and fees. MD is considered a high-tax state, yet, there is no vehicle or personal property tax, no annual safety inspection, and tags are $180 for 2 years.

They do more than make-up for certain lower fees/taxes with real estate property and income tax. The vehicle property tax, and high vehicle registration fees are regressive taxes that hit lower income people much harder.

I’m a 31 year old male and I haven’t had a ticket in 2 years. My insurance is through American Modern Insurance. It’s a stand alone policy just for the vette (home and others cars on a separate policy) and I pay $88 a month for full coverage with everything set at $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident. I also have a $50,000 valuation on the car if it’s totaled. That valuation ignores depreciation. Hope this helps.

I don't know about other states...but here in N.Y. Credit Score of insured has a lot of impact on the insureds' auto premium.

Yep! My brother lives in MD and your taxes (overall) are higher there than they are here in VA. However, we still have that ubiquitous 'personal property tax' in Virginia that is assessed every YEAR on cars, boats, trucks, vans and motorcycles. On my 2017 Corvette, it was almost $1500 last year!

We pay a lot less for gasoline in VA than you do in MD; real estate, sales and food taxes are lower as well. We also don't have annual emissions testing (unless you live in NoVa), but we DO have to get our vehicles inspected annually. That is not really a tax per se - but is an added cost & hassle that is mandated by state law. We also pay lots more for booze in VA because of our idiotic state liquor monopoly, whereas MD has privately-owned liquor stores with better prices brought about by competition.

One thing that will always be better about VA is that our state is far more 2nd Amendment friendly than MD or DC ever could be. This may change, though, as so many leftists are moving here from "up Nawth" and bring their voting habits with them. GRRR!!

Well, at least they are not trying to outlaw Corvettes. :-)

Foosh 05-13-2018 01:24 PM

In MD, food purchased in grocery stores, or for preparation off-premises is not subject the MD sales tax. Restaurant food is subject to sales tax.

We don't have annual emissions testing either. It's every 2 years, and only in certain metro counties. The cost is $10. New cars are exempt for the first 3 years. We also have self-serve kiosks where you can DIY your own emissions test by just plugging into the OBDII, and it runs the test automatically.

Safety inspections are only required when a car changes ownership.

Given my situation, my overall taxes are much lower in MD than they would be in VA just because of the personal property tax on vehicles. We have 5 vehicles, including a diesel-pusher motorcoach, and taxes on the coach alone would be about $6K annually. Our total vehicle tax bill would be in the neighborhood of $12K annually. The MD bill is $0, and $180 for each vehicle every two years for registration. The monster bus costs the same as a car.

I've got 250,000 / $500,000, $250 deductible, daily driver, $800 per year (yes, annually, NOT 6 MONTHS) for my 2016 vert witb Travelers. Also have a 2008 Silverado on the policy and its $50 less than my car. We also have our home owners with them.

It is just amazing how much it varies from state to state!
