Has anybody hardwired a Valentine One in a C6??

yeah, tapped into the mirrors wiring harness w/ a 20" Invisicord and used a mount that screws into the visor's mount. Got both the bracket and the invisicord as a package from http://www.vettemods.com/combos.htm

The easiest way to go about it is to use a mirror or visor mount http://t-rexsoftware.com/greatlakes/ and an Invisicord to the mirror power http://www.invisicord.com/order.html.

Mirror mount does not work as well b/c the V1 vibrates more and somewhat restricts vision. I highly recommend the visor mount (make sure you get the right bracket whether you have onstar or not) and the 20" invisicord (you need the longer 20" cord to completely conseal it). Installation took 10 minutes at the most and the cord is completely hidden.

Zip tied the invisicord to the mirror wiring, then tucked it up and into the lip between the top of the windsheild and the frame, looks pefect. I did however slightly modify the bracket by cutting some of the flange off that slips inside the V1's plastic top mount with a dremel tool, then gorilla glued it, solid as a rock w/ no vibration, plus it sits slightly closer to the windshield w/ the extra material from the flange cut away which makes it easier to see from the drivers seat..... Perfect.

I get little to no vibration with my mirror mount...and I like the location because I don't have to take my eyes off the road to view it and because IMO it's the best location for both front and rear detection.

Just a matter of personal preference I guess, but in a low to the ground car like a vet, the higher the V1 is mounted, the better the detection range like it says in the V1's manual, however I imagine the difference is minimal.
But it does have a clear shot out the rear as well, isn't too high like you might think.

CinRed, I do agree that you would have to take your eye less off the road with the mirror mounted location, however that is minimal as well.

Just comes down to preference, I thought I read in previous posts the mirror mount isn't very secure and will vibrate, but I have no experience with this, just what I read.

Thanks for all the good info! On my c5 I had to run a wire along the top moulding, down the doorpost and to a plug under the floorboard.

I believe it was a PCM box?

Wiring into the mirror sounds a little easier.

I have only had the C6 2 weeks, and there are quite a few changes over the C5.

Gotta get around to this too.

Wiring up the Invisicord is VERY easy. You just push two pins into the connector on the back of the mirror. Takes 5 minutes tops.

FYI...don't forget to use a wire tie to secure the Invisicord to the mirror wire bundle to keep it from inadvertently pulling out.

Also, if you use the mirror mount, clean the heck out of the back of your mirror with alcohol to make sure you get a good bond.

If you have the onstar box located just to the right of the mirror, use the V1 suction cup mount. Put a piece of wide (cut to fit) black tape for a smooth surface then stick the suction cups to the onstar box and complete with the invisa-cord. I made my own cord, it's just a telephone cord and connecter. Someone put photos and very good instructions for this installation on the forum about a year ago. You might want to do a search.

I have used this mounting technique for about a year and love it.

To stop the vibrating for the mirror mount I went to a Hobby Lobby and bought a black eraser and cut it up a little and stuck it between the radar detector and the mount. All the vibrating quit and it works awesome now

I mounted mine on the driver's side with the Great Lakes visor mount and the Invisicord. :thumbs:

I am trying to decide how to mount my V1 as well as I am tired of dealing with the suction cups. I am leaning toward a mirror mounting but regarding the visor mount, does that mount the V1 so high that the rear sensor is obscured from the rear window?

I have a 20" because I initially installed it on the passenger side. The extra tucked out of sight under the window trim. A 12" might do it, but I'd get a 16" to be sure it will hide under the trim between the mirror and the V1.

No, the rear sensor looks out the rear window just fine.

Here is a picture of an Escort detector mounted on the passenger side with our bracket. As you can see its high enough to be out of plain sight from outside and places it just below the tint line. Its also set back enough to allow for the visor to be placed in the down position, if needed. With the new OnStar compatible version the detector sits just below the OnStar box.
