Front AND rear facing camera
Im going to be installing a new Nav unit in my vette in a few weeks which supports a rear view camera...
Is there a way to use two cameras..Im thing of a switch that defaults to the rear but can be toggled to the front when required Or would it just be better to use proximity detectors for the front |
u can hook the front to the aux video input on ur unit then just switch over to it
|
Sweet....maybe no I can buy that ACI chin spoiler and not trash it!

Interested to see how you plan to do this. I'm thinking about something similar....perhaps cutting up my front filler plate.
|
It will be a few weeks....I'll keep you informed
Im thinking of just making a hole in one of my fog lamp screens |
You could use the reverse sensing circuit (back up lights) to trigger a relay that switches the video source.
|
That would leave the forward facing camera on all the time...Hmmmm
|
IMO camera always being on isnt really gonna hurt it, you could always rig up a switch for it

well how i would do it and IMO the right way is to hook the rear up like u normally would and then hook the front up to the video1 source on the unit (basically the aux input) then when u want the front cam, i assume for parking, u just switch to video 1

I just thought you were looking for a way for it to switch automatically.
|
there really isnt a way to automatically switch them

I did a similar thing in my truck. I installed an AVIC Z1 in there and my wife wanted to be able to see the baby from the front seat. I also wanted a backup cam as well. So used a toggle switch to switch the feeds into the AVIC. One of the AVIC modes has a nav map and backup camera view on a split screen.
I was thinking of doing something like this on the Z as well but am still toying with how I want to do this. I also want to be able to save the front splitter but having this linked to the backup cam won't work as well IMO because of the trigger used for the backup cam. I want the backup cam to pop on with the reverse gear but still be able to see the front splitter cam without the reverse trigger. Jay |
I would think a box like this would work:
http://www.hdtvhookup.com/2wayauviswse.html although i've been trying to find one that's video ONLY and a little smaller. |
why the need for a splitter though if the unit has an aux input that can be used for the front cam, about to park change video sources and got ur front cam

Most in dash video screens only have one RCA video aux input. You'd need a selector to tell the screen which video soruce to read.
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...C-F900BT.Popup Unit images..I only see one AV input |
most units have a backup came and video input so u have an input for ur reverse cam that will come on whenever u put car in reverse then go to video 1 for front
|
Most units I have seen don't automatically select for a front and rear camera.
However, it can be done and cheaply with an IC. http://www.eetindia.co.in/ART_880047...P_1b3b2cf0.HTM Or you can use a small 12 volt relay to switch inputs. Here is a commercial version (24 volt) type http://www.rdlnet.com/product.php?page=83 |
