fuse box local.
Is there another fuse box on a C-5 other than the one under the hood near the battery?

There is another one on the passenger side floor board. There is a panel that you have to remove to get to it.

Here you go:
Instrument Panel Fuse Block The instrument panel fuse block is located on the passenger’s side of the vehicle, under the instrument panel and under the toe-board. Remove the carpet and toe-board covering to access the fuse block by lifting up on the latches at the top of each corner of the panel. Then turn the fuse block door knob counterclockwise and pull the door to access the fuses. Thanks for the info guys,I want to hard wire my Radar det. and am tring to figure out the easiest way,I bought one of those pigtail plugs that go into the rearview mirror and it didn't quite make good contact so I put a little silicone on it to make a tight connection, well the radar fell away from the windshield and pulled the wires loose and they can't be reinserted, sooooooooo the next step for power is hardwire to something, any suggestions?

3 Attachment(s)
You have a couple of options to get an additional switched acc power source
The easiest is to use fuse #22 which is live but not used for any other function. I used an “add a circuit” connector to hook in. This gives you the switched hot. Attachment 48158099 These are not my pics but show you the hook ups Attachment 48158100 You can see how the connectors slot into the fuse box/ The other option is to hook up into the spare connector which is available for ancillary devices. I believe this is used for the CD changer so it may not be an option for you if you have one of those fitted. In the passenger footwell (unless you have a 2004) behind the kick board you’ll see a fuse block and to its left a silver box which is the BCM. There are three wires taped together feeding into a connector. The Black wire is ground; the Orange wire is powered through fuse #7 but is permanent hot. The Yellow wire is powered through fuse #11 and is switched hot when the key is in the ACC or ON positions. Hook up to the Yellow for switched ACC. Attachment 48158101 |
Did you trim the lugs that plug into the fuse box? Or am I missing something here? I just bought one of these and it definitely will not fit the two slots in fuse # 22.

DeeGee - What is unique on the 04s? I am looking for the best place to hook into an always hot 12 volt source in the interior.

I believe there is an always hot in the HVAC controls. (I have dual zone)....if my memory is correct. Just use a meter and you'll find it. For switched power, i tapped into a wire at the ignition.

IIRC the 04s dont have the connector in the pic I posted. You'd need to tap into another circuit or run a wire to the battery through the firewall. The cigar lighter is always hot |
Thanks AntonioZ06 and DeeGee!

So, if I were to cut the orange wire and splice the end that's coming to the the fusebox into the yellow wire, would I think get a cigarette lighter that is switched by accessory power? |
Thanks for bringing this post back - been wondering how to connect some stuff up and was looking for a switched place to do it.

Not DeeGee here but the answer is YES. Be sure to tape over the end of the orange wire that you cut so that it doesn't touch any metal and pop a fuse.

Fuse box
Yes. It's under the driver side dash. On the floor below the heater coil. Lift the rug and you will see the box Bolted to the floor.

Instead of just cutting the orange wire and tapping into a splice in the yellow wire, I think I am going to protected spade plugs on both ends of the orange wire, and tap a spade onto the yellow wire. That way, not only will I protect the end of the orange wire, I'll also be able easily swap back in the future, should I ever want to. And, if I want to add anything else, I'd have both type of power already tapped. ;-)
Edit: After looking at the connector firsthand, the orange wire does not connect to the cigarette lighter. Details here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...post1581724003 |
Can I pull the cabihn fuse box? If so, how?

A prior installer located electronics for a sub-woofer behind the box just left of the cabin fuse box, then apparently got the electrical power by tapping into the fuses in this box. Problem is, I can't tell where, and the wiring looks like it runs behind the box. I am doing a stereo upgrade and one of my objectives is to rid my C5 of all the "old" installed stuff. So I'd like to pull the fuse box, if that's possible, and see just what was installed and, if possible, figure out how to remove it. Anyone who can add insight how to pull this fuse box from its brackets - please chime in. Thanks, The Lizzard |
