Uh oh...I think my slave cylinder is leaking :(

Well I jacked up my car to change the oil today and I see some fluid under the car. No worries I figured, it must be just water. Then I looked at the back of the motor and I realize it's covered in some kind of fluid.

I did the "taste test" and it definitely wasn't water. Only thing I can think of from back there is brake fluid, meaning my slave cylinder took a dump is what I'm guessing.

Perfect timing too, I was going to drive my car down to Texas tomorrow. Now I don't think it will make it. I'm kind of screwed because I am moving to Florida in 5 days.

Here are some pics, tell me what you guys think:

I can install the new slave for you at Joshs house. Hes got a lift and tools. We will just push his car off it. should not take too long.

Wouldn't it make sense to do everything in the bell housing?? Clutch/slave/throw out bearing???

Clutch and slave are only 2 years old at the max, I did the Textralia clutch in 2009 I just cant remember when...

I'm gonna go take a test drive and see how bad it's leaking, I don't think it's too bad.

Did you check the master for fluid loss?

Yeah when I first noticed I went and looked at the master and it was half empty :(

Just went and drove it and came back and parked and it's definitely leaking drops. I'm not sure how bad it is yet I'll go back and check under there in a few hours and recheck the master too

Considering the master was half empty, and it's dripping on the floor.....I thing that question has been answered.

So now the question is if it's dripping fast enough to keep me from getting to Texas without it losing all its fluid.

Obviously I can stop and refill it every hour if I need to.

I have drove without the clutch in my 2001 z06. only problem is when you stop at the lights:ack: I had to turn off the motor and crank it in 1ST! and go!!:willy:

see ya tomrrow night

I wouldn't have any issue with that trip as much of it is highway miles without the need for clutch usage. Fill the res at each fuel stop and you should be good

In high school (back in the 60's) my buddies clutch went out in his 66 GTO and that's how we got around for a week or so!

ha we did that in my buddies trans am all the way to dallas. got pulled over half way there and the car was all tore apart so they thought we stole it. after an hour on the side of the road they let us go.

just dont get stuck in traffic

does it feel like brake fluid? I mean oil and brake fluid have a very different feel if you rub them between your fingers.

Mine decided to randomly take a dump back this fall and did the same thing. Found a big puddle under teh car and when I tried to move the car the pedal would just stick to the floor.

Milan 02-18-2011 10:16 AM

Definitely not oil...throwing it on the lift today to see what's up

redrckt97 02-18-2011 12:16 PM

the other thing to consider if driving it with the slave leaking is getting fluid all over your clutch -- not a good thing.

Milan 02-18-2011 02:21 PM

K guys starting to pull everying out right now. What all should I replace while I'm in there?

Here's what I'm thinking:
Slave cylinder
Pilot bearing
Throw out bearing

Anything else while I got everything off?
