3rd brake light removal
I already did a search and didn't find anything for the C5...
How do you remove the 3rd brake light on a C5Z? Thank you. |
Remove the inboard two taillights, and then reach in and unbolt the CHMSL.

Cool, thanks...something like that was my guess. I'm replacing all of my lights tonight and I didn't want any surprises once I got started.

I removed my 3rd brake like by taking off the license plate and backup light assembly plate, just reach up with a net drive and remove the two screws and disconnect the harness.

Special tools/bits required? (I didn't get to it last night...hoping tonight)
|
7 mm if I remember correct. It's been a while...
Easy stuff. You'll probably get scratches on your forearms. Nothing big. |
I have done it through the two inner tail lights too.
|
The only problem with removing the license plate surround is that if you have a stock plate frame the odds of breaking one of the tabs is very high. The cost to replace the frame is around $100.'s :ack: I perfer the tail light option:thumbs:

Do it through the back up lights/license plate assembly, a lot more room to move your arms and easier to see if you duck and use a flash light! Done it a couple of times and this way is a lot more friendly to your forearms! Just take your time removing the stock license plate surround, to avoid breaking the tabs, if you loosen everything first, it's almost impossible to break the tabs!

Well, I'm now replacing the stock license plate assembly too...so I might as well go that route! Looks like I don't have the right torx head bit needed. Any input on what size I'm looking to use here? Thanks. Thanks to all for the input/help!!! |

Yes "Nut Driver", I guess I should proof read what I type a little better.......:D |
Operation was a success...did it through the rear tail lights. Was a very easy job. (although yes, it scratched up my forearms) The new dark cherry halo's from corvette enhancements (and JW Motoring) look awesome.
Tonight I will finish the rear markers, license plate assembly and front DRL's. Thanks to all for the help. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a20...b/DSC01413.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a20...b/DSC01408.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a20...b/DSC01411.jpg |
Looks nice. LED license plate lights from JWM would go nice with those halos :D
