C7 center console top pad wrinkles due to loose material

I've had my 2016 Center Console replaced twice by the dealer due to excess wrinkles and loose material. The replacement has the same condition and now I'm wondering if any others owners that are having the same issue and how did you get the issue resolved. My car was delivered on 10/16/2016.

Picked mine up on 10/2 no issues at all. I've read about quite a few people with the same issue. Some people have had luck using heat to get it to settle down, though I'd just do what you did and get it replaced.

The center console is evidently not a good place for elbows or any type of pressure. That said, I've had my 2015 for nearly nine months and about 7500 miles with no issues whatsoever.

Good luck with yours, hope it all works out.

2015 here, no problems at 4500 miles.

There are several threads on this. Simply put, many have the issue and get the lid replaced under warranty but the replacement part has not been corrected so it just ends up happening again.

Mine's a '14 and have the same issue, I will probably head to the dealership and order a replacement, thanks for the info people.

Just replaced mine under warranty, lets see if it happens again.

I had the problem after several trips this Summer and eventually it came back into shape after sitting in the warm (hot) garage. Following a Fall cruise my wife's elbow made a new indentation that was still visible when I parked it for the Winter in early Nov. I haven't looked at it since, but assume it will be flat again by now. Getting it replaced under warranty will only be a short term fix if they continue to use the same materials. I'll think about it more in the Spring while I still have some warranty remaining-maybe GM will make a change in the part by that time due to a high number of warranty claims.

Are people still seeing this on their console lids ?

Per Tadge, change was made in March of 2017 to fix issue.

I had the same problem on 2015. Got it replaced under warranty when I did the flash upgrade. Haven't had problems with new console. Though, I am now careful how I place my arm on the pad getting in and out or moving around while seated.

My '14 has not exhibited this failure but I have seen a slight indent from my elbow a couple of times - but that recovered after a couple of days like over a weekend when I wasn't driving it. As my dd, my C7 has over 52k miles on it. I did buy a spare off recently just in case mine ever does start to fail due to wear and tear.

My C7 is also an M7 and I tend to lean on the center console far less than I do in my automatic cars. Since my right arm is busy shifting a good percentage of the time, I wonder if this helps to minimize wear on the console.

Had my lid changed under warranty and the new lid is doing the same thing. Guess I'll try a new replacement again.

robertbruce 02-26-2018 12:48 PM

I have always used a small hand towel the color of the interior laid across the console. Have never had the problem you are describing. I have been doing this for years in 7 different Corvetts. Three were C7's My C7's were the 3LZ interior. I don't know if there is a difference in the 3LZ and 1 and 2 LZ center console material.
