Haven't looked at doing it on the new tranny's with the fluid level set by the standpipe but, on my other vehicles, if I want to change ALL the fluid (and I usually don't bother), I drop the pan and change the filter and then refill the pan. Then I disconnect the cooler line FROM the transmission at the cooler. Start the car and the dirty fluid from the converter is pumped out the cooler line. Typically the fluid changes color from dark to "new" before you pump the pan dry but if I'm concerned, I shut down and refill the pan and then restart. It's VERY obvious when the color changes and then you know you have all new fluid in the tranny.

I haven't looked at doing this on the Z but I bet there's a way to do it.

I emailed this 'teacher' and he recommends changing to the new-better-fluid.
I've been looking for a tranny pan that has a drain-plug and only found one for $700.
So I am thinking in next spring, I will have about 10k miles and will pay the $400 to have the fluid flushed and changed once.
Speeding $400 is much better than seeing the car torn apart to change a torque converter.

I had wondered about this myself. I am assuming my 2016 auto has the old trans fluid as well as my 2016 Silverado 8 speed. I was going to get both changed this winter to the newer fluid that GM went to. I have not noticed any problems on the Corvette but the truck shifts rough occasionally from 1st to 2nd under light throttle. I am assuming the dealer is not going to do this for free unless there is a problem. Anybody got a opinion on changing to the newer trans fluid on 2016 & earlier 8 speeds?

Most of the "need" for the change is to move to a better fluid as GM has determined that the newer fluid causes less problems with their A8 convertor and its shudder problems. And they are on fluid number 3 now, although it apparently is only available in 55 gallon drums until early March.

How would someone find out when they're doing the 3rd and newest different fluid change at the dealership's?

And the new TSB requires the dealer to measure the "shudder" with an instrument and is very specific about the frequency of the "shudder" and its amplitude on the instrument. The dealer than sends in the readout from the instrument (GDS 2 or PicoScope) to confirm the shudder and in return gets permission to perform the TSB. No more telling you friendly SA that you have it and getting a fluid flush.
