Suede flat bottom steering wheel

I just ordered the suede flat bottom wheel, shift knob, and boot for my 2014 Z51. Has anyone else made the switch? I assume I will need to take it to a dealer to do the wheel due to the airbag?

Had mine dealer installed to avoid any issues or problems. Mine not OEM and dealer had no issues.

Mine was installed by my dealership. Others have done it themselves, if you know how to.

Here are the instructions:

I'm certain there are more threads on the how-to if you do a search.

My dealer charged me 1/2 hour labor when I did this to my 2014. Well worth it.

I had the dealer do it because the #50 torx was a bitch to get off. It's really easy if you can get the bolt off. Needed an air impact to get off. I have the sued shift boot as well but haven't installed it yet. Has anyone changed this out them selves or maybe a link? Thanks!!

Have read about too many having problems with the install, I had the dealer install mine. Well worth it.

Had dealer do mine as well and.....

.......and he had a bear of a time getting the nut off as well; intellectually within the average car person's wheel house but the tools and the mechanical "touch" is what I lack...(I was already there for the airbag recall as well).....

Lowes 700lb impact gun, took less than 2 seconds to loosen. One of the best $50 air tools I ever bought! As a note, my dewalt electric impact wouldn't budge it nor my 500lb Home Depot impact gun.

Finally got this installed and it looks great. Need to clean it but wanted to post it right away.

Very nice!

I've been contemplating going to the suede wheel. Worried about accumulation of skin oils and sweat over time and difficulty keeping the suede clean. Any indication this might become a problem over time?

Had one on my centennial vert. Love the feel and held up well.

That's funny...I actually did just the opposite.
Mine came with the fuzzy wheel and shifter knob.
I changed them both for the smooth leather ones:

The guy at the dealership said the only problem he has seen with suede was scratching from diamond rings. My wife can't drive a manual so I should be good.

I am guessing that the suede probably will not wear too well. Only time will tell.

Suede swap

Did mine myself.
Easy...just take your time.
Steering wheel nut ...don't bother with an impact wrench...just used a simple basic breaker bar....2 seconds!

what did you do with the factory one you took off?

Gary2016 12-09-2016 04:39 PM

Where is the best deal on a suede M7 wheel? DO you send yours out or do a core charge? Cost? I love the idea as I had it on the CTS-V and it held up well and wasnt slippery at all great deel. I am looking for one for my car.
