How-To: Remove/Replace Steering Wheel
The following How-To covers the explanation of how to Remove/Replace the Steering Wheel and includes specifications, schematics, etc.
These How-To guides are neither endorsed by or property of Corvette Forum or myself in any way/shape/form. All liability stemming from any actions taken in relation to these guides is solely placed upon the user.
We hope you will find these guides useful.
CAUTION: THIS INVOLVES WORKING WITH THE SIR/AIRBAG SYSTEM. YOU MUST EXERCISE THE UTMOST CAUTION AT ALL TIMES WHEN WORKING AROUND THE SIR/AIRBAG SYSTEM.
PLEASE NOTE THAT, AS LISTED, THE SIR/AIRBAG SYSTEM RETAINS POWER FOR UP TO 2 MINUTES AFTER THE NEGATIVE CABLE IS DISCONNECTED. PLEASE APPLY THE BRAKES FOR AT LEAST 2 MINUTES AFTER DISCONNECTING THE CABLE, AS THIS AIDS THE DISCHARGE PROCESS.
AGAIN, WE (CORVETTE FORUM), MYSELF, AND ALL INVOLVED AGENCIES ASSUME NO LIABILITY FOR THE DAMAGES OR INJURIES THAT MAY OCCUR WHILE WORKING ON THE SIR/AIRBAG SYSTEM. PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION.

If you're asking about the silver trim piece, once you have the airbag out it just pops off with a bit of prying. Just be careful not to use a tool that will bend the thin edges of the metal (or at least start on the bottom side where it won't be seen).

Approximately how much force is required to apply through the two little holes to pop the airbag. I tried and tried, but it began to feel like it was excess force. I changed the wheel trim on a 14 C7 and don't remember it requiring so much force to free the airbag clips.

If you're at the wrong angle with your tool you could easily miss the tab. IIRC it needs to go in pretty much parallel to the axis of the steering column.

Make sure you disconnect negative side of battery, wait 5 minutes...put your foot on the brake a few moments..then you should be good to go. It is lots easier than it looks..once the airbag is out....the spoke easily pulls off disconnect two plugs at 4 and 7 o'clock, then the Star Nut....wheel slides right off.
