Windshield buzzing?
 

Hi! I have a 2008 z06 and if I drive above 70mph then something starts to buzz. I can't figure out what's buzzing, does anyone else have this problem? Please see my YouTube video:

Plastic strip along the lower windshield on the outside. There is a service bulletin I think for it. Mine does the same thing. Drives me nuts. You can tape it down and drive it to determine if that's it, I tried this and no noise. To be clear its the black plastic trim at the bottom of the windshield. It doesn't do it in the summer time here, I guess the plastic is more flexible in the higher temps. Good luck.

The cowling in the engine bay next to the firewall also produces this (it may be the same thing). I'll bet it only happens at certain speeds like around 60-70. A good Corvette shop or dealer will have fixed this many times.

I think we are describing the same thing. 60-70 is correct. :thumbs:

Apply some blue tape over the cowl seal and onto the windshield. This will keep the cowl from lifting at higher speeds and buzzing. Go for a drive and see if it went away. If it does it's the plastic windshield cowl. I had mine replaced years ago for the same thing.

easy way is to pick at the plastic trim using your fingernail and see what is flip flopping around easily, the part that moves easy is the piece probably making noise at speed.

I would look for more plastic parts then rubber, but if loose enough it would.


Is that where the sound seems to come from?

Have you had your roof recall done? Mine had a sound like that before having it fixed. Air going under the panel that was about to come off.

Condition/ConcernSome customers may comment on a buzz type noise coming from the lower right side of the windshield while driving at highway speeds. The noise will be greatly reduced when the HVAC is placed in the “Recirculate” mode and will return when the system is placed back into the “Fresh Air” mode.

This condition may be caused by the air inlet grille panel (cowl trim panel) fluttering against the windshield glass.

Recommendation/InstructionsUse the following steps to diagnose and repair the condition.

 1. Apply masking tape over the cowl trim panel to windshield gap. Drive the vehicle to verify the condition is eliminated. If so, proceed with the next step.
 2. Remove the rear hood seal. Refer to Hood Rear Seal Replacement in SI. Only remove the right side of the seal. Complete removal is not required.


 3. Remove the right air inlet grille panel screw.


 4. Remove the two right side cowl trim panel clips.


 5. Disengage the two hooks that retain the cowl trim panel to the windshield glass on the right side. Lift the right side of the panel as shown to expose the two right clips.


 6. Cut four 25 mm (1.0 in) long sections of *Kent Industries Butyl Rubber Windshield Tape, Part # P20230 or the equivalent, as shown.


 7. Install the material on the two right side hooks as shown.


Ensure the material wraps around the end of the hook.

 8. Reinstall the cowl trim panel and ensure the hooks are fastened under the edge of the glass.
 9. Reinstall the two right side cowl trim panel clips.
10. Reinstall the right air inlet grille panel screw.
Tighten
Tighten the screw to 3 Y (27 lb in).
11. Reinstall the rear hood seal. Refer to Hood Rear Seal Replacement in SI.
