"NEW" 2007 Z06 Tire Question
 

In December, I traded my 2002 Z06 for a 2007 Z06. The snow is finally gone and we are ready to enjoy the "new" one. I have done a fair amount of research online and everything seems to point to replacing the tires because of age alone. When I picked up the Z06 it had a total of 385 miles on it and it has been stored in a heated/cooled garage kept at 50-78 DegF depending on the season. It has only been out in the sun about five times and never seen rain or snow. The tires still feel soft and there is no visual exterior cracking. Should I just be safe and replace all four tires? Does the fact that they are run flats make it safer to run an older tire?

No way in hell would I drive on 10+ year old tires. Just my opinion.

Go do a burnout and at least put them to a quick death, then get some fresh rubber.

Traction will be the issue (due to age), which I'm sure you will find out. If its me, I would replace them. Congrats on the buy though!

:iagree: This is a no brainer. Tires that old wouldn't be safe on any car, let alone on a light, high powered car like the Z06. I'd waste no time getting them replaced. Then you can enjoy your new beast. It must be super clean. Can you post some photos? :cheers:

Sounds like a replacement is the confirmed answer. Was hoping this money could go towards the reworked heads, headers, cam, intake, etc., but best to be safe especially if the wife will drive it also. Here are a few pics...

Just don't get the OE GY's as replacements. (To me) The consensus best choices are Michelin Pilot Super Sports (MPSS) for Non-Run Flats, and Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position if you want run flats. I run the latter, since I wanted run flats...Bridgestone developed the tire specifically for the C6Z. If I wanted non-run flats, I wouldn't hesitate to run the MPSS.

Agreed with above. Those are the two good tires to look at.

Also agree with all of the above. I run the Bridgestones (second set) and think they are excellent tires and less expensive than the Michelins.

Used Bridgestone PPs on all my Corvettes & always happy, until last set.
Some kind of supplier issue, had to pay a considerable amount more for the available Michelins.
Great tire Michelin, even if more $.
Mine are holding up well although the Pfadt street spec alignment may be a contributing factor. :cheers:

If you are just driving in town, I would drive on the tires for a few miles an see how they feel. Not sure I would go out of town on a trip, but around town, I would be ok with that. But I would sure be saving some money for new tires. Great looking car btw. :thumbs:

PS) Your wife wants you to get your new Z06 out of the living room... :D

Wow. Super low miles! I would definitely replace the tires as others have mentions.

I've got an '06 with 5000 miles, and the tires looked like new until last year when I decided that was their last year so I started smoking them off. To be honest I know traction wasn't that great but didn't seem horrible. Mind you I have nothing else to compare to.

The safety aspect is what got me. If I want a 140mph blast down the highway I want to do it without a tire exploding.

Been searching for MPSS tires most of the winter, and they set has not deviated much from the $1250 price from Tirerack.
