Very good driver....one of the best pure racers.

I'm always rooting for the underdog USA team, but he sure does seem to have a lot of braking issues, complaints and wrecks.
He has complained VERY loudly...until recently.
Awhile back, he announced in the media he would stop talking about the braking issue.

Could it be since it is a USA team and anything that gets put on the radio gets televised for the USA audience?
As I understand it, everyone gets the same broadcast.
The only difference is the announcers.

Are other teams further down the list having the same complaints and issues as Grosjean with their chassis and setups?
No, this is something specific to RG's preferences.
For example, Mags hasn't complained about it.

The Haas effort has been pretty good for a new team
Haas has had more success than any new team in a very long time.
As American fans, we should be very proud of what Haas has been able to achieve against heavy odds.

but the owner sort of said why race if there's never a chance for anybody other than Ferrari, Mercedes or RB to win?
He was told this coming into the sport.
I don't think he (at the time) appreciated the truth of it.
Welcome to F1, Gene.

I'm thinking nothing will change to really help the smaller teams....and really, why should top teams be penalized unless they are cheating? The rules have become so convoluted and constricting in many ways only the big teams have the money to work around the rules and spend a lot in engineering dollars to stay fast. This is F1, rules to restrict are often the death of a series because only the richest teams can compete.
That's right...it's all about who has the biggest budgets.
The bigger the budget, the more talented the people in the sport are available for hire.
Budget caps are the only way around this.
Unfortunately, then it will become a battle of accountants.

FIA limitation in 2018 = Horrible. Just a bad decision, but this is the organization that is forcing the Halo on teams and not giving them the technical data they need for next year's car.

Love Grosjean, he has matured so much from his race ban. I feel Haas is hinging everything on the 2021 engine re-do and if he can't make ground there, probably will quit.

I absolutely think Red Bull could sell to Porsche, and I could even see Mercedes quit in the next engine spec. Why bother anymore? You came, you saw, you conquered. Nothing to prove.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Gene hangs a FOR SALE sign on the front door.

The lack of a competitive environment is killing F1...and Liberty knows it.
With MB winning nearly 90% of the races with this hybrid formula, it's tough for the smaller teams to get anywhere.

FP2 Highlights (Grosjean's 17G hit):

VetteDrmr 09-29-2017 11:15 AM

That was nasty. Not the hit into the wall per se, but what that drain cover did. I wonder what other damage it did (the cover, not the wall impact) to the car?

I bet the welders are gonna be reinforcing a lot of drains tonight!

Thanks for sharing, and have a good one,
Mike

sunsalem 09-29-2017 06:10 PM

It's not the first time we've seen drain covers come up.:toetap:
It's a wonder someone hasn't been killed yet.

TrackAire 09-29-2017 06:40 PM

The track owes Haas for the repairs in my opinion....no excuses for drain covers getting kicked up. I can't believe this is still happening.

On a lot of tracks, if you crash into a wall, etc. and there is damage that needs to be replaced, they send you a bill.

When the Vipers tried to set a Ring record last month and one hit the crash barrier wall, the bill was something like $14,000.00

sunsalem 09-30-2017 02:34 AM

Oddly, it seem like a semi-regular thing in F1....
Maybe it's because the track owners and/or their employees don't understand how much downforce an F1 car generates?

In other series or with other cars, the covers are just fine.
BUT, an F1 car generates WAY more DF than any other vehicle and can suck everything up that isn't nailed (or preferably welded) down.

Went sideways for Vettel in a hurry!

Wow, an engine change after FP3 and didn't even get a timed lap in Q1. It's hard to tell, but it almost sounds like the engine change didn't solve the problem, although that's only going off of both times going into limp mode to get back to the pits.

Out of engine component changes for the rest of the year as well. :ack:

Looks like the new aero stuff Merc brought didn't work out; at least as far as this weekend goes.

Gonna be interesting on the start tomorrow; Kimi gets another decent start he could take the first corner!

Have a good one,
Mike

I thought it was a good race, although I wonder if the failure in Kimi's car was the same as Vettel's (broken plenum). Haas was pretty much a non-player today, even though Magnussen was in the points until the pitstop.

Suzuka is next week, then 2 weeks later I get to see my first F1 race at COTA!!! Woo Hoo!!!

Have a good one,
Mike

Back to HAAS for a moment.

Did any one else get the feeling when listening to the interview with Gene that he was "complaining" to get the attention of Liberty and the FIA. He does not strike me as a whiner and maybe he has figured out that the only way to get their attention is to publicly complain.

I wonder if his and others airing of the issue will lead to changes. I have mixed feelings about where that might lead.

Will there be changes? Oh, yeah. Will they be beneficial to any of the teams? That depends on the teams you cheer for.

Does anything the mid-level teams say have any effect? Very doubtful.

Have a good one,
Mike
