Rear hub replacement question
 

i am replacing the rear hubs on my 93, from the research I've done; I believe I only need the teflon washer and there is no hub seal/dust seal needed. I bought Timken bearings and they did not come with anything besides the assembly. I want to make sure if my car requires a seal I get a new one... but if I don't need it I don't want to waste my time

if it was mine, i'd replace the Teflon washer, there' cheap and should be available at any dealership...Just My Opinion. I have a 93 also...

I recently did my 95. I could not find the teflon washers anywhere. If you can find them replace them while you are there. The bearing is a sealed unit, so no other seal needed. Remember to put some anti sieze on the axle splines.

Garry, you read my mind.... I can't find the teflon washer. Dealership says the part is no longer available, my next question was going to be; what's everyone's opinion on reusing the washer? In most videos I've seen it reused and just greased up.

I would check online for the Teflon bushings, they have to be available somewhere. The hubs I've looked at have had a seal of one form or another. Some were separate while some were incorporated into a groove in the hub. The unit was sealed but apparently it's intended to keep the dust and dirt out of the spindle area. I assume that's what they're for.

In the event you can't find new seals, if it was me I'd grease the old ones before I put them back in. The Teflon has to be in there for a reason.

They were no where to be found when I did my rear hubs.

I tried several online GM parts places and some corvette vendors. Even though they showed them, let me order them, they would end up sending me a no longer in stock/availible order cancellation notice.

I never siezed them and put them back in, I had no choice at that point. Maybe keep an eye on ebay.

I bought an extra set of washers when I heard they were getting hard to find about 4 years ago..I should of bought a few dozen I guess..WW

I did talk to Rydell Chevy today and he stated he could not get the washers
GM# 14076924 but said these 3 dealers still had them and they are around $8.24
for 2 I think. Good Luck

I got a back order message from CC. They also stated no eta from the manufacturer. That was about a month ago.

A few years ago, I ordered two washers. When I did my hubs a couple of years ago, I looked at the old washers, they seemed to be in good shape so I greased both sides of them and re-installed them. The hubs and rear end haven't made any of the noises associated with bad washers. So I would recommend greasing and re-using them.

I'm keeping the new ones on the side for the future (if necessary).
