What the H#$$ are those dots on the windshield & back window?

Tried to attach a dash cam on the front windshield just right of the rear view mirror & high. It was a decent single suction cup, but it became obvious that those dumb dots are preventing a seal from forming.

So what the heck are they? I had some smaller ones on back of the c5z window & never seemed to cause a problem when I stuck a camera back there.

:ack::ack:

In the tradition of answering my own questions, I called the tech support for the dash cam I am trying to get to stick, he said the dots are for HEAT DISSIPATION.

That so? Had not known of that.

;)

Well then, not so much really about heat dissipation, about what you should expect from level one free tech support, he did know the dash cam however.

:)

Ram mount = better than the one included with the Costco/Whistler dash cam.

:)

So the dots aren't really dumb dots after all. :D

Bring up the dot matrix to any window tinter. They love that stuff. Live for it.

Ha! Slight correction...be someone who is on the particular side about your car (aka "Corvette owner") and ask if they can make the tint on the dot matrix perfect. The expression on their face says it all at that point.

Did your c5 not have them in the back window?

the tint on my rear hatch looks like it is peeling thanks to the dots.

2004 c5z (special glass) Front = tint band, rear = small dots on top.

My tint not peeling yet but looks not to be 100% adhered.

Many people put black vinyl over the dot areas and then tint the remainder.

So does vinyl stick better than tint?

:)

Apocolipse 04-21-2018 10:00 PM

Yes it does.

10+ years in the AZ sun and no signs of deterioration yet. I'm guessing it's more about the guy who installs it, than the product itself.

The hatch defroster wires present a bigger vision problem than the dots. I get more concerned with function than appearance.
