New Tire Recommendations

Hey Guys. I need some advice. I want to put new sneakers on the C6 and not sure what to buy. I hate the ‘Run Flats’ that I have now, so I want a regular tire. I live in NY but I don’t use the car in the winter so I don’t care if I get an All-Season or a Summer tire. I want something quiet and ‘grippy’. What do you recommend? Also, I have stock rims on it. I believe they are semi-polished aluminum and clear coated. Can I get them polished to a mirror finish or am I wasting my money or looking for trouble? Thanks.

Do a search, its your friend  You will see all the names like Continental, Hankook, Firestone, Michelin, Nitto etc.
Your pocket book will determine what you want

I just put a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4s on my C6 last month and they are AWESOME! Much quieter than the stock GY run flats and the grip is fantastic. I am very glad I got these tires they are worth every penny!

Install Pilot Super Sports or I hear Pilot Sport 4S are even better. I have the Pilot SS non-run flats. They are quieter and smoother than the original Goodyear F1 Runflats. At the time, there weren't many suppliers for wide tires on a '13 GS. If you have a base C6, I think you have more manufacturer options, but you'll be quite satisfied with Michelins.

I purchased my C6 with just over 7000 miles on it. It had GY run flats which were very noisy and not the best ride I have experienced. I spent weeks researching and decided upon Michelin Pilot A/S Run Flats and it was the best move I made. The ride is decidedly quieter and the grip is great even in rain...and we get our fair share of rain here in So.FL. A friend in CA did the same on his C6 and his observations coincide with mine. Bought mine from Tire Rack and had them shipped to a tire center for mounting, balancing, and a 4 wheel alignment.

The best advice I can give is Stick To Run Flats.

Just get a whole new set of wheels and tires like I did. Look up Bob at “house of wheels”, he’s a forum sponsor. He has a great wheel selection and good prices. I put C7 Z06 wheels on my car and went with Continental extreme contact sport tires. It’s a great quiet tire and a 100% improvement over the garbage Goodyear’s.

Are they run flats?

Searching myself. On Tirerack's website the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 is their top rated tire for standard C6 sizes.

It's also a Summer tire. I live in NY. I don't use the car in the winter but it still gets cold in late fall and early Spring. Some say that you shouldn't even store Summer tires in cold temperatures. I'm still trying to decide if I want to get another Run Flat tire or not. I hate the Good Year Run Flats so much that I have now. Not sure if the Michelin run flats are going to be different even though Tire Rack gives them high ratings for Ride, Noise and Dry Traction. Maybe I'm overthinking this whole thing.

No they are not

Dump the run flats and never look back.

We're all guilty! :D

I’m super happy with the hancooks. By far the best tire for the buck.

Gator6977 04-26-2018 04:14 AM

+1 for the Hankooks. Very quiet and seem quite "grippy."

Nearly 50 years of driving here on cars ranging from cheap Fiats to Porsche 911's and these Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires are the BEST tire I have ever owned. Just 500+ miles on them with my C6 but I have over 5,000 miles on them with my GT and I have been in the snow in Utah to the desert heat of AZ on a recent vacation. Not cheap but you get what you pay for 9 times out of 10. Good luck with your choice.

Thanks. I decided not to go with Run-Flats so I ordered Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's. I should have them on the car next week. Can't wait to see the difference.

I just put the same tire on my 2012 GS -- I was surprised after all the hype of how quiet there are supposed to be..and they are not all that quieter -- in fact the fronts are noisy just a bit . My 2013 GS has Run Flat Bridgestones and if I blindfolded you and took you for a ride on the highway --you would not know the difference in noise. The Michelins ride a little better.
