Big Block Engine Identification - 396?

Hello everyone, I just brought home a motor that I was told was a 396 and I am having a hard time determining what it is/what it came out of - it may be a bit of a Frankenstein engine but your expertise would be appreciated!

Engine Casting # 3855962
Exhaust Manifold # 3880827/3880828
Intake manifold # hard to determine if it is the 3866948 or 3883948 - I will work on cleaning it up and update if it does.
The engine pad stamp # T0920EJ

The 962 block is a 396 used in 65-66 Chevelles, Impalas and in 65 Corvettes. It’s a four bolt main block. On the passenger side of the block is machined pad with numbers stamped into it. Post those numbers. Do not use ANY abrasives on that pad.

Chevelle

I believe EJ is a 1966 360hp or 1967 350 hp from Chevelle with MT and AIR (smog) probably a Cali car. Check cast date to tell which.

I believe that this block can also be safely bored to 4.251 and made into a 427 should you feel the need or have some other (re: 427) internals laying around.

Good luck... GUSTO

I don't think so. the 65 casted blocks maybe. but this one is for a 66 application. unless it has "fangs" above the timing cover

Yes, before I would bore any block that much, I would have it sonic tested,
