New C6 Z06 owner in NJ

Just picked up my first corvette this being a low mileage 2013 C6 Z06. Completely stock. Car sounds amazing and feels great. I have an S2000 as well that I track hard and it's nice to feel some torque lol. Basic pics below. I plan on changing all the fluids (oil, trans, diff, clutch) and maybe next year look into a new set of rims/sticker tires than the original tires. For now the goal is just to enjoy on the street maybe some autocrosses, drag strips. I would love to track this car but still have a dedicated s2k which is a blast, maybe someday.

Any other recommendations to do?

Beautiful Z. Rarely see one in white, and the polished Spyders compliment it very well. Congratulations, and welcome.

Get the heads checked out asap. Most replace the factory heads with an aftermarket setup while they've got everything apart. HCIE Z06's are easily capable of 600rwp. Good luck, and enjoy.

Thanks, I plan to contact one of the well known vendors about the valve issue and heads rebuild. When you say get the heads checked, does that mean you gotta take off the heads and inspect from the bottom, since "wiggle test" on top is not precise enough. Was going to research this to see if I got lucky with my heads and can test clearances.

I don't plan on doing much power modification just reliability since NASA, SCCA restrict those things for entry level classes in racing/autocross/time attack. Would just work on suspension/tire/aero setup.

there is another recent topic about C6z vs S2k, your input would be valuable on that thread as well! Check it out if you get a chance.

Another S2000 and Z06 owner! there is a theme here. Honda gave up a lot of repeat customers by not coming out with a second generation. I had it 10 years and while not tired of it at all - loved it - wanted to try something new. As 73DBG mentioned there is a S2K/Z06 thread here. I co-owned both a few months, and my son bought the S2000 - that was the plan - once he got situated with a job post college and an apartment with a parking garage, he would buy it and I'd get something else.

Thanks for tip. I was planning on doing AHP but may take a look at them if reputable and quality machine work. They are local for me so that would be convenient. What work did Chris do for you on your corvette?

Welcome to the forum. Upgrading to a ZR1 rear spoiler would be a nice touch.

They could easily R&R your AHP heads for you. Really depends on the type of guide material you want, and the int/exh valves you plan to use. AHP is the only one using a proprietary PM guide material, and they are the only ones offering MS90. Just about everywhere else is using bronze or manganese-bronze.

Being a 2013, and low miles also keep an eye on the rods as that is a major issue. Get the Ti levels checked.

Great car... Welcome!

Prior owner on my white C6Z had ECS do the head cam work to my car before I got it and the failed to put the C5R timing chain in it when doing the install. Prior owner paid for it and they stuck the factory timing chain in it and cost me $1000's to repair recently when it broke on me. I wouldn't trust them to change a lug nut on my car after discovering this.

He said she said, I never had a problem with them with any of the work done on my car.

Yea this is one thing that is unfortunate. I was reading that most cars with the bad bearings due to improper coating on the connecting rods should of failed by now. The examples I was reading about failed at like 2000 to 3000 miles. It only affected a very small number of the 2013s and was corrected for the majority. I still got a 3 month powertrain warranty on the car so plan on driving a lot to get another 2-3k miles on the motor to check the oil for analysis. The oil was just changed prior to buying otherwise I would check right now with quick change.

Car has like 5300 miles and runs and sounds smooth. The only thing is a very mild engine ticking noise with revving but I was reading this is normal for this engine since its an older push-rod style. Also could be an issue with internal transfer tube in oil tank bouncing around, but I have to pinpoint the noise with my mechanic stethoscope. I am use to minimal valve train noise of DOHC engines like Hondas.

Still have a lot more reading to do.

Not all of them unfortunately...I've seen as high as 8K. This forum member here bought his 2013 427 vert w/7K miles, and within a month after purchasing, his motor failed due to the rod bearings. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ert-owner.html
