K&N Filter
Has anyone installed a K&N air filter system? I have a 2015 Z51 and was wondering if it voids the factory warranty. Any problems installing one like having to cut existing lines?

What’s wrong with OEM?
|
About a Year ago,I tested these 3 filters on my '17 LT1.
White=BMS,Yellow=OE & Red=K&N. This was NOT a dyno test, but rather a real world test of everyday driving.I ran the BMS & KN both about 500 miles each and based on my SOTP feeling,I chose the BMS.It's a dry media so that is a plus. I don't believe a filter change would void your engine warranty under normal circumstances. I have the KN and you can have it.Pick up only in SC. \db2 https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...d98758171b.jpg |
'nough said. I'll pass on it and keep my OEM!

BMS all the way.

K&N for me I had BMS - K&N was better - car felt more responsive - everyone will have their own opinion but imo K&N was better
|
I went with Attack Blue with good results. Dry media and larger than OEM. There are many options...

Haven't seen any credible independent test data where an aftermarket air filter improved anything for the C7, except for the manufacturer's/seller's income.
I would be interested if anyone has any independent test data that proves otherwise.:toetap: |

I've used K&N I a half dozen different cars - American , Japanese and german.
I can't tell you that there has been any performance benefit K&N claim a few hp - I believe a few = no more than three to five. But could also be "0". There's no downside, they last longer; easy to clean and re-oil. For sure they don't void any warranty. My vette has had one in for about 6,000 miles. or 18 months. I just removed, cleaned and replaced it - it was dirty. |

Dirt pass thru? Perhaps you have experienced that but it has not been my experience the last 13 years.

Filtering Efficiency: Filtering efficiency is a measure of the filter’s overall ability to capture dirt. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...b9103914d1.jpg Accumulative Gain: “Accumulative Gain” is the total amount of dirt that passed through the filter during the test. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...634f6612d9.jpg |

There is a downside, these types of filters allow more dirt into your engine.
The other problem is that the oil in the air filter will contaminate your MAF. It will happen gradually and you might not even notice the performance loss. |

This is the biggest negative of the gauze type filters.

I just went air filter element shopping. The K&N was $66, the ACD was $81, and the STP was $40. Went cheap.
