New Rubber
There's nothing like getting new tires........ Especially when your old tires are 7-8 years old. After way too much research and procrastination, 4 new Michelin PS 4S tires on my Z. Wow, what a difference! I don't want to say what tires I came from since many on here use and like them. Let's just say age is not a friend of any tire. Unlike myself, where age seems to be ok, in my opinion. (Much better than the alternative.) Anyway, the PS 4S seems to be an excellent tire and a big improvement over what I had. Now just need a destination for a road trip......

I have the PS4S on my Z as well. Amazing tire. In my opinion the best tire in it's class.

Amazing how much tires effect ride quality.
I guess they are like new athletic shoes for your car. |
I was going to go with Hankook on my 99, then we put my old Super Sports on our C 5 Z and what a difference from the AS we had on that car !!! So I decided to stick with Michelin's and installed the PS 4's on my 99, WOW !!!!

I have MICH PS on mine but was thinking of going with Firestone 500's because they are on sell, are the MICH alot better than those.......?

I think replacing Old Tires with new supple rubber will always be feel good thing. I would always avoid the use of the word " WOW " that would indicate ( at least to me ) that whatever tires they had before must have been real crap to offer the term WOW as an indicator of how poor their tires were.
Ive replaced many tires over 60 years of driving and over a million miles, The transition from old tires to New tire was not that dramatic... Since nothing ever happened with the old tires, I only replaced them as a precaution. due to time or usage. I would reserve the word " WOW" to an experience like my first sex.. in my world getting new tires does not rise to the term " WOW " BTW for those that dont get it... this is tongue in cheek.... my sense of humor. |

The OEM tires were aging and tram-lining on the highway bad enough to make you psychotic. |

IMO I'd rather have the best tire for my Vette because in the event I need to stop fast or do an emergency lane change the tire can be the difference between avoiding an accident or not. |

Your point is well taken.. I always say to people who question why a Corvette and the need for that HP... the extra HP is a defensive tool to get out of the way of an escalating problem… Its like my argument for more Octane... you may not need it but when you do need it, its nice to have it. I think the selected tire compound and tire is more determined by your driving habits, budget, and need for a certain aesthetic look.
for others.. they could care less if they choose 4 different manufacturer tires for their car. ( to some , as long as its the right size, that's all that counts. I was asking the question specifically to that guy with the blue car., the guy who has a space for my car in his garage. But your response was welcome also. Bill aka ET |
It’s the best tire on the market. Only complaint I have is that they are so soft I burnt through them too quickly. Switched to the a/s 3+ for the time being. But I’ll be back to the ps. :yesnod:

in my case went from Pilot Super Sports to the P4s and STILL way better (newer tech) and WOW,WOW, WOW, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Michelin PS 4S is very similar to the Continental Extreme Contact Sport. I have the Conti Sports and have been very happy with them. I know a few guys who have the Michelin 4S's and they're telling me that they're a great tire with a little more grip than the Conti' s which makes sense because they have lower treadwear rating. My only complaint with the Michelins which is nothing new is the price, but they've always made quality tires. My favorite are the Michelin Cup tires, extremely expensive and very low tread life, but also as close to track only tires you can get that are still street legal.

At Gm we had to do 80 hours a year of School to keep our credentials in compliance ( every year of my 30 year career ). I don't understand the debate.
There can't be one tire that's best for everyone. We have different terrain, climate, suspension set-ups and needs. The only comparison most people can make is there old worn tires to brand new ones. Vendors web sights have plenty of user reviews for anyone shopping but there seems to be a consensus here of a few popular brands. I think the real issue is the lack of choices for "17 tires. |
