Muncie m-21 transmisson lever orientation

Is this the correct orientation of the shift levers for a 66 M-21 close ratio Muncie Transmission ? I'm asking about the two levers that the shift rods connect to. The levers have a bend in them and I'm not sure if I have them placed correctly.

Threads on the rod look awfully close to the end, but I think the orientation of the levers is correctl

Thanks for the picture. It looks to me that my 3rd to 4th lever is reversed from yours. By that I mean mine is bent away from the tranny and yours is bent towards the tranny. This would also explain why the threads are so close to the end of the rod. Is this what you see also ?

Also looks like you have (or did have) a pretty decent oil leak..

To stir the pot (in a nice way, I hope), this subject has been a little controversial in the past. The AIM and service manuals pretty clearly show the 1-2 lever (rear) with the offset towards the transmission, and the 3-4 lever (front) with the offset towards the tunnel wall. With that said, the 1965 St. Louis picture at body drop that has been floating around pretty clearing shows both levers with the offset towards the transmission.

I personally run mine with both offsets toward the transmission and have found no interference through the full shift pattern. My recommendation would be to do the same.

I should have added the exception to actual assembly pictures was the unique '63 shifter with the crossed shift rods. The 3-4 lever was clearly assembled with the offset outward toward the tunnel wall.

That's not mine, but I thought they looked exactly the same as yours the front one bent away from the tranny and the rear one bent toward it. The important part is to keep the rods from scraping together

My experience has been that when in neutral both 1/2 and 3/4 levers are almost vertical.

On a '67 at least, the levers actually slant slightly toward the rear when both are in neutral. If the 3-4 lever were reversed (offset outward), it would slant slightly forward and require a longer adjustment on the rod like the OP was showing in his first post.

Yep, rear seal on the intake manifold was leaking. Fixed that last summer.

Is it OK if I save this picture to my file?

I installed my 3-4 rod as shown in this picture and the rod end hit the tunnel at the shifter. Had to turn it around and place the adjustment at the Tran end.
