Key question

the ignition key that came with my car when purchased works in the ignition as well as the doors, I assume this is not correct. Is there any point in re-keying the doors to require the round key? Also, no key fits the any theft lock on the rear. There was a GAS key on the key ring too, of course no locking gas cap, just the factory sealed one. Do I bother? My brother in law is a locksmith, so will only cost a beer or 2.

The door switches I would leave alone until you need to fix the window regulators.
The alarm switch is easy but good luck finding a new switch.

You did not mention what year the car is ?? 69 -73 door and ignition key was the same

Have you tested the anti-theft system to see if it works?
Do you have 12 volts on the orange wire at the switch?
Since you have no key for that switch jumper from the orange wire to the pink wire and see if the system works.

70 should have square key for the ignition and doors, a round key for the storage box and spare tire
The alarm key would be a separate key (I believe in 70E it was still separate) b&s and then later on it changed to match the storage/spare
The gas key you have was something someone added along the way

Thanks, makes sense now. No lock on my spare, missing when bought. It is an early 70.

I have a 1968 C3 and it came with no door keys, just the ignition key. I took it to a key shop and they made the door key match the ignition key so I only need one key to do it all.

When my kids got old enough to "want" to drive the C3 I simply bought a second ignition tumbler assembly with key. You put the key in the lock and turn it to accessory and then push a straight pin (Paper clip) in and the who assembly comes right out. I can change the ignition keys from one to another in less than 30 seconds.

Being a Convertible there is not much sense in locking the Corvette. To me the one key method works great and IF I want to lock the doors then I know I can with Key #1.
