Thanks, I didn't think it would be that easy. Looks like another good mod to shed more pork. How about the hood? Someone said my 79 hood weighs near 80 pounds. Anybody replace their stock hood with an after market unit to save weight?
I'm not sure of the weight savings...but when my '77 hood went bye bye, and I got the L88 hood...it felt like I lost a good 50 pounds on the front.
Hey D-boy, your not tossing your trash in someone else's dumpster are ya. Must be your construction site
Yep, it was not my construction site, but I wasn't dumping trash. Just the hood. I drove up, spoke to the foreman, and explained I didn't want to drive way out to the city dump and pay $10 to dispose of the old and cracked hood. He said no problem, toss it in, and have a ball doing it. I obliged him, and went about my way. They were a bunch of cool guys and loved the Grand Cherokee 360 I dropped in that old rusty pickup.
...and if that engine won't fit under a stock hood?
If you're running a roots supercharger or a tunnel ram you could glass in a bigger cowl or a scoop.
I run a Victor Jr manifold with a 4 inch air element with the filter top under my stock hood. I just use a drop base air cleaner. And I still have enough room to squeeze in a nitrous plate.

I have a regular victor with a custom drop base and A 3inch element.
Sounds like your stock heavy hood will fit. Now what to do? Choices, oh choices...
I don't really want to run the dzus fastners but I may have to. I takes away from the stock outside look. I was planning on taking the hood off and cutting some of it out to make room for an air box maybe I'll cut out more now.

Why don't you like the L88 hoods? I think, depending on the color, they are the best looking after market hood available. I personally love the way they look on our body style.
