Whats the ratio for a 1980 L-82 turbo 350 ? anybody know? Because when I go to the 100megs free place they list it as 3.55:1 and I will soon (as soon as I find my motovation) I will be putting together a '82 with parts and pieces from the "80. And adding a BW T-10 4spd. Thanks,,,Peace,,,Moosie

Hey Moosie, odd you should ask. Because in one publication our 1980's have 3:55 and on another it says 3:07

Owners manual says 3:55 but everywhere else I've read 3:07's
I've been told there's a way to jack up rear & spin the wheel to determine...I haven't quite been able how to figure that out yet...Slow learner

mark (chalk or such) a rear tire carefully inline with a fixed point, eg the top of fender well. spin the tire one full revolution. count the times the driveshaft turns. three full turns- 3:07, three and a half- 3:55, etc. good luck, Rich

my Black exterior/Dark Red interior '82 had 2.87s before I swapped to 3.73s:
I believe the other gear ratio available was 2.72:1.....

Either that or find where the code is stamped on the case, it was my understanding that automatic L-82's had 3.55's and the 4 spd's ? had the 3.07's. I know that when my car was on the road it accelerated pretty good and tach'd up pretty high at highway speeds,,,,,,,,crs as to what #'s though. Anybody know for sure? Peace,,, Moosie

I read once that there was a link between getting the N90 aluminum rims option and the 2.87 rear.

If you did not order the N90 rims, then you got the 2.78 rear gears.

It was not only CE models got the numerically higher gear.

I pulled the rear out of my '82 just a few months ago to bump mine up to 3.23's and the originals were 2.87. I also bought a spare diff and it was a 2.73 (confirmed on the actual gearsets.) I believe those were the two options available.

I had read that (N90 wheels + 255/60R15 + 2.87:1 came only as a unit, while Rally wheels + 225/70R15 + 2.72s were standard, with no deviations ) from 2 different sources, and repeated that here (maybe you saw one of my earlier posts? ), but I have since seen window stickers, showing N90-wheels w/ 225/70R15 tires, so I am not-sure that wheels/tires/gear-ratios had any influences on each-other, and I don't repeat my prior comments.

That must be it, I thought the CE was the difference. Any case it one or the other I put 3.55's in mine.

Except when I had my non-Collector edition rear end replaced with a 3.55, was told it had a 2.87 in it, per stamp on gears or something.

Edit - did not read all posts before I posted. Have aluminum wheels, hence the 2.87.
