It's a good question, and no. But I have cats on my car for that very reason. I daily drive my car and can't smell like a gas station when I arrive at a business meeting in a suit.

@ $700, not bad if you compare them to Borlas or Corsas.

Don't expect a performance improvement though with stock engine. It's a sound only mod.

This is one mod I am seriously thinking about. Stock sounding when you want, stinger sound when you want. Warranty in tack.

American Racing headers & 3" x-pipe w/ cats, Magnaflow 14336 mufflers.

Thanks! I use them quite frequently. Really turns heads when I open them up.

Can you vary how much you open the valves if you want more rumble but don't want them completely open?

Once you crack them open, they are louder. It's pretty much open or closed. There is a slight difference between cracked and wide open but not a lot. They are not, however, as loud as you would think when open. For example, I had Borla Stingers and headers on my H/C C5. It was LOUD. Probably 25% louder than my C6 with the cutouts open.

I had cutouts on my Hurst/Olds in the classic spot right by the collectors. That was deafening. No way you could drive on the street like that. These are not nearly that loud. The fact that these are way back in the pipes and directed at the ground muffles the sound. Exhaust sound is important to me, and these sound great. Just perfect. Deep at idle like Borlas (rumbles the car) but screaming at WOT like Corsas. Sounds like a NASCAR at WOT.

Are the cutouts electric or vacuum? Where did you install the switch, do you have a photo of that? How about a link to where the cut outs can be found and part numbers?

The cutouts are electric.

http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/QTEC/index.php Click the "shop online tab" to see the electric cutout packages.

Very Nice Looking Install. I'm curious as to how reliable these are long term prior to getting a set for my C5. I'd love to have them for the track but with my back trouble i just cannot be messing with hung up openers under a car. Any help on their reliability will be greatly appreciated. I have the LG Stainless Headers with RT Cats so i think i'd need 2 3" cutouts. I wonder if these open would gain me a 10th in the quarter? Anyone know?

To the person asking about the switch - I mounted it on a screw under the dash. You can't see it unless you know its there.

I haven't had any trouble with mine, before I bought them I did a lot of research and they seem fine. C5 owner SpeedyZ has had them for many trouble free years.

I did not get a 10th out of them. No real gain. Maybe .5 mph but that could be from my tune tweaks. I should have some dyno numbers open and closed pretty soon.

Ran across my old thread this morning and I realize that I left a question open.

I did dyno my car with the cutouts open and closed. No real difference. Closed was slightly higher torque but < 1 rwtq so it's likely just variation in dynos. Here's a dyno sheet below.

Despite no perf. advantage, it's probably my favorite mod. It sounds bad **** with the cutouts open banging through the gears.

I have cut-outs on my 66 Chevelle 427BB roller. These things are great!! I bought from DMH performance in Cincy, OH. if you are considering buying, check out their website. There is nothing like breakin' em loose with these cut-outs cracked to turn some heads and scare the H#$& out of some Rustangs!

Joe, thanks for posting this. Now it makes me wonder what the heck is GM talking about getting 6 crank (5 rear wheel) horsepower out of their cutout exhaust system.

However, I agree with you, I had a cutout on my cammed LS1 01 Z28 and it was my favorite mod. That car sounded so good with the cutout open, you can't believe how many thumbs up I got with it open.

Only issue with it is I had the cutout for over a year and I was just plain dumb lucky I never got a ticket. It would attract attention from a mile away and I probably opened it at least once per day.
