I just picked my 'vette up from installing a door ajar switch and now where my coolant temp reads on the digital display every 45 secs or so it flashes SYS for about 3 secs and then stops.
It usually just means a low battery. Maybe they had the lights on too long and it just needs to recharge.
I was in the middle of editing to add something like this. It's the first thing to check, since it is simple and common, but people often reply with this and fail to add that "SYS" does have some meaning.
I checked out that link but i didnt see where it talked about SYS means...
Sorry, "SYS" means this:

The link tells you how to find out what that code is. A factory service manual will, in turn, tell what that code means. I'd offer to look it up, but I don't have your year.
There is a similar page at that site with a some more info. I do know that they are not 100% correct for 1996, and thus maybe not for other model years either, but for both of us it should be good enough to cover most of what we need.
Now... the advice to charge and check the battery is good as a first step and frequent fix, but I will say that I have had "SYS" flashing at me since I bought the car, through good batteries and bad. In my case, it is an aftermarket stereo for which the computer doesn't see a dimming circuit, and I haven't bothered to do the fix. There are a host of other things which are monitored similarly.
im pretty sure its not the battery cuz i just put a new one in like 3 years ago, and its not holding an abnormal charge or having any trouble starting
You can get the battery checked for free at any Autozone, ORiellys, Wallmart etc...
Depending on your driving habits and many other factors the battery may be draining more over night then the generator can charge while driving, particularly in short trips.
3 years could be a long time for some batteries... just double check to be sure before you spend $$$ at a shop for diagnostics.
Do you have an aftermarket sterio??? That is what is causing mine to flash SYS.
Actually there are a few things that can cause this. Disconnecting your radio which was stated earlier will cause this. So will disconnecting yuor alrm chime for lights left on or keys in ignition. I'm pretty certain there are many other connections if left unconnected will cause this. Make sure to check all connections on any modules or switches you might have disconnected.
