Default is my 92 lt1 slow or what?

sat night im riding around with my wife"in mexico"when a 6 cyl mustang vert starts driving fender to fender with me for a least 2 miles.i can see its a couple of younger guys so i know at any min its gonna happen.normally on something like that i wouldnt even waste my time.sure enough when we get out of town he lets it loose and so do i from about 25 mph.by the time we hit 75mph i hadnt pulled more than a foot from this guy.im sure if id wanted to race to 145mph it would of been different, but who wants to do that.even in "mexico"thats a bad idea.after talking with this guy,he offers to show me its stock 09 stuff.no spray, and id know it,not my first time in "mexico".so my question is,does that surprise anyone but me?is my car that weak becuse of age? 120k,it doesnt have any obvious problems,a4,2.59:1,close to 28mpg hwy,msd opti,or should i be looking for something wrong?new to c-4s,but z-28s and trans ams with the lt1s ive driven would eat my 92 alive.so what gives?

First off, 2.59 gears are not made to race, they are for gas mileage.
Second, because of your gearing at 75 you should have pulled it into 3rd and then you probably would have pulled away.

Z's have different gears and they make a difference, also what year Z?
I have 2.59's w/2300 convertor, headers and I can beat them in 1/4 mile as long as they are stock LT-1's.

The V6 Mustang is only 210 hp in a heavier car then yours. Racing only 50 mph gain is not much and with 2.59 gears your car was just starting to get going at the end of the race. A set of 3.73 gears would have made a big differance. It's hard to tell if your car is slow unless you take it to the track. On a good air day around sea leavel you should be about 13.80 to 14.10 at 97 to 100mph. I ran 13.6 at 101mph with 3.07 gears bone stock with 5k mile on it. You could dyno it too should be around 230 to 245rwhp.

got beat by a V6 Mustang eh? My '85 would eat yours alive then.

Seriously though, that rear end gear is seriously hampering your acceleration. Perhaps you also need a tune up?

Take it to the track.
