Default Gear shift rattle

New to the forum & need some help: My 2001 Coupe 6 speed has a very noticable rattle, under acceleration, in the shift lever. The rattle starts after the car has been driven for approximately 1-1/2 hrs. A slight pressure on the shifter will stop the rattle. The car has 41000 miles and not driven hard. Has anyone else had this problem?

It sometimes occurs with aftermarket shifters.

My Hurst does the same thing. Started about a year after I installed it. The bushings that hold the shifter assembly down were worn so I'll be replacing this this spring and adding blue locktite.

Hopefully that will quiet it down.

The particular choice of ***** can also be a factor. Some are more prone it seems, than others.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I should have stated that it is a factory shifter. I do have an aftermarket shift **** (ball) and it seems tight, but I think I'll remove it and see if the noise continues. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

For aftermarket shifters, I have always used a Fernco rubber pipe cap tho quell the vibrations that can happen when you install a Hurst, Ripper or MGW shifter. My aftermarket shifters have never suffered from those types of vibrations since I installed one of these. A forum member posted this here long ago so I don't remember who to give credit to. The cap can be bought at Lowe's/HD.

Here's my current MGW

With the Fernco cap

The cap - I use the 1-1/2" version. I used this 2" version when I tried the C6 shifter.

Thanks.

I'll try adding one when I open it up to do the bushings.
