Same as any used car. Look for signs of abuse and ask for maintenance records. Good luck.

05 was the first year. They are great cars with a bad rap. One issue ive seen in person is electrical issues. And theres really nothing you can predict about them. The 05 supposedly have a weak diff. And I'm sure a few other issues

If your buying a vette fist things first.

Drive it. A c6 should ride very smooth and handle great

Listen to it. A healthy ls2 should purr not tick or knock

Look at it. Vetts ride low check the front bumper for damage, look for obvious body damage that's been repaired and look for paint overspray.

Buy a one or 2 owner car. They will or should know the details of previous maintenance and history.

Check car fax for salvage or serious recurring maintenice issues like transmission brakes or suspension.

Idk I'm sure theres more but thats what I can think of

Nothing wrong with an '05. I wouldn't hesitate buying one if the price and mileage was right.

The rear differential was strengthened starting in '06, but if the car was not tracked or you don't plan on drag racing it, then you are probably OK.

There are a lot of stories here on how the '05 is an inferior car and have issues, since it was the first model year for the C6, but there are also a lot of guys here who have had 0 issues with theirs.

check the tires thoroughly... and get the car properly up on a lift and have a competent mechanic
you trust inspect everything...

have a dealer run a GMVIS report (from the VIN) and review all the work that was done on the car...
verify that any re-calls/TSBs were performed...

And put it up on a lift and see how she looks underneath. It's out of warranty so major oil leaks etc are issues you don't want, plus you can spot signs of abuse.

I just got rid of an 05 with an A4. Not a thing wrong with the 05. Do the background work on the car. I put 40k miles on mine with only 1 minor problem. The drivers door would not open on occasion. Took it to a competent dealer who fixed it for $100. Absolutely one of the best cars I ever had. Traded for a Z06.

I like low miles, no leaks. Abnormal ware of tires, seats etc. may indicate to much exercise. I favor original equipment over mods on a used car. Nice to have all the fobs and owners books, maint/service records. Everything should work as advertised ie windows radio DIC etc. Owner manuel. history, car fax is nice to have. Drive the car and listen for car noise and use brakes. I like to know why the car is being sold although you may not get a straight answer. Good to take a Corvette guy or someone who knows more than you do with you to check out the car. Believe little of what you hear and about half of what you see. Like the car but be smart and don't let your emotions drive the deal. Good luck.

Lots of threads on what to look for on 2005 C6, like this:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...w-morning.html

Yes, there are plenty of satisfied 2005 C6 owners. But here are some reasons the 05 gets a bad rap:

-- 05 with manual transmission is the ONLY year C6 with a steering column lock. Make sure yours works smoothly -- you don't want an expensive repair or, worse, to be stranded!

-- 05 dead-battery-syndrome (DBS) was a real problem... fixed by computer reflash. Well-known issue, so the 05 you're looking at was probably fixed by now.

-- Just a heads-up so-you-don't-kill-the-battery: 2005 with manual transmission MUST be parked in reverse gear, or the battery will drain. This is not DBS. See pg 2-31 in the owners manual: http://www.gmpartshouse.com/download...05corvette.pdf

-- Some folks delight in hammering/abusing 400 hp, damaging the rear end -- which was beefed-up for 06. Other year-to-year changes: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/1563694469-post5.html

Also from the above thread:

Check on this forum for VIN's with early builds having loose crank pully.

Check all position on the horn button to make sure no dead spots.

Check the underside to make sure the rockers are not cracked and the
"supposed" skid bars do not have broken welds.

On cold start make several sharp turns (figure 8's even better)and see if posi clutch plates are sticking.

Listen for column lock cyl. to move freely.

Push the rear trunk black button and see if it releases the trunk.

Have Chev. dealer pull up Warr. repair record.

None of which cannot be fixed, just need to find 'em before you have to pay to fix 'em...
Bottom Line: It's a buyer's market. And it's winter. So, get a great deal on your 05 or walk away.

what CO said above. you've been on here a long time so you already know how to input various words to the search function in the red band above. do it so no one has to reinvent the wheel to answer your questions. and so you get what you want with full knowledge of what to look for.

Check the Vin# and if it was one of the first 11039 cars made, it is subject to the crankbolt backing out. I had one in that range and never had it happen to me, but it always made me a little nervous. The fix is about 1K.
