Default X-pipe on GS

A work associate has a stock 2010 GS, and it really sounds much louder than my 07 ZO6 with the stock h pipe and muffler mod when starting up or idle.

From what I read here of the forum, the x-pipe has less decibles, so it must be the mufflers. Again some of the threads here mentioned that the mufflers didn't change till 2011 and the same ones are used on both the GS and ZO6.

When I had my 08 LS3 I had the Corsa sports mufflers and I loved the high pitched exhaust note.

I'm wondering if the x-pipe would even make a difference at all?

Any opinions are welcomed. Thanks, Velocity

I have an X-pipe with the stock unmodded mufflers, and it gurgles/pops more on decel and might be slightly louder at WOT. Slightly less boat/drone like at idle (flaps open) tho which I thought was a plus

That's what I love is the gurgles and pops and if it it's louder at WOT then it sounds like I could enjoy an x-pipe.

Thanks for the reply.

I've swapped out the h-pipe for an x-pipe on three Corvettes -- an LS1, an LS2, and an LS7. In each case, the exhaust note has been slightly quieter and somewhat smoother. I wouldn't be adding an x-pipe for the purpose of making the exhaust louder.

Thanks, Ernie

Did you see any increase in gas milage with the x-pipe over the h-pipe? So the x was quieter but was the exhaust note a higher pitch?

Thanks, Velocity

I don't pay close attention to gasoline mileage, but I did get about 0.5 mpg better mileage than a friend's Z06 on a long trip (over 2000 miles). We both used the on-board fuel calculations displayed on the DIC. I don't know if the difference can be attributed to the x-pipe or not -- maybe, but could have been driver differences or variations in the calculations for mileage between the two cars.

I don't think the pitch is higher (or lower, for that matter), just smoother and slightly quieter. I like the x-pipe sound, obviously. The smoothness reminds me a bit of the many 4 into 1 collector exhausts I've had on motorcycles -- I love that sound.

Hope this helps.
