Default Who's installed factory 8K tach cluster in base C4

I've seen questions IRT upgrading to 8K cluster over the years . So here's a thread that may provide guidance to those that modify their C4s and want/need a higher rpm tach..

I did the install years ago after becoming board with the tach needle continually pointing off of the scale indicating LEFT BLINKER...

So if have installed an 8K cluster into your C4 please post the year of the C4 and whether you were successful or had issues.

SO I'll installed an 8K cluster into a 1995 Vert, cluster is probably from a 1996 LT4 no issues....It was plug and play.

You mention "probably"! The important relevant information needs to be what it "actually is"! On the cluster is a label with an 8 digit part number that needs to reported "as plug & play or problems"! Here's the way I sorted it some time ago. A person needs to record what they used by part number and what was different or presented issues. Indicator lights etc.

1990 ZR-1 - 16133461 (260° engine oil)

1991 ZR-1 - 16142481 (280° engine oil)

The LCD's are assumed to be the same in these and they should exchange directly to '90 & '91 only cars. (DIC Switch is identical)

1992 ZR-1 - 16158841

1993 ZR-1 - 16158841

The '92 - '93 base LT1 cars share the same "base cluster" so these numbers are considered directly interchangeable. (DIC Switch is identical)

1994 ZR-1 - 16168031 ***

1995 ZR-1 - 16168031 ***

1996 LT4 - 16201621 ***

(DIC Switch for these 3 clusters are the same so there should be no issues with these)

From this information it appears that '94 through '96 could use either of these for a direct exchange since the '95 & '96 base cars shared the same cluster.

***I'm not familiar with the warning lights on these

People have swapped LCD's year to year etc and mentioned no issues or issues that didn't concern them. I've paid little attention to that. Until a cluster tachometer is confirmed to be correct when compared to a scanner on the ALDL it should be assumed that it likely needs calibrated. I actually believe that if a cluster is KEY - ON & ENGINE OFF with the TACH parking @ 0 you're likely fine with calibration within specifications.

+++++ INFO OTHER THAN DIC INFO FROM '13 - '15. I added DIC INFO TODAY 1/24 AFTER CONFIRMING. KEY - ON & ENGINE OFF THOUGHTS ADDED TODAY ALSO>

WVZR-1 Great Information. I am relatively certain that its LT4 (I had the info but that was many years and a couple of computers ago) When I first swapped clusters I was performing plenty of datalogging and the tach was close enough for government work. Unlike the factory that was setup for much lower.

Got a ZR1 cluster from http://easternelectronics.us/

I just put the ZR1 cluster in. No real problems. The bottom quarter inch of the LCD is black.
