I have a 2005 (A4) and drag race it quite often, & I find it VERY consistant...and trouble free...it shifts fast and solid (firm) .. now I have also raced a friends 2007 A6 & to be honest I like the A4 better.. but must admit I have only made 6 or 7 runs with the A6...
Anyone have more experience with "Both" transmissions and your opinion. Reason I'm asking is I have been offered a good deal on a 2008 that is A6...I like the car, but its not something I HAVE to have...as I an doing very well with my 05 (A4) Just trying to see if I should upgrade or not...
I personally like the A6 over the A4. With the right trans tune the A6 IMOP is a better shifting tranny. I've run A4's since my F-Body days and still have one in our 02 C5 street/strip car but its in the shop waiting on a drum change in it. The tranny in the C5 was built by a well known builder and didn't last one season before dropping 3rd gear.
Its all in the tune on how these Stab and Steer cars transmission performs..
Ive had both the a6 and a4, i currently have a 2008 corvette with a 4l65 swap and i can tell you thats the best mod i have done. I will never consider swapping back to the a6 unless i put the car back to stock and sell it. 2 1/2 years on a semi built a4 with over 40 passes in the mid 10s and 3 passes in the high 9's. If i could do it again i would of bought a 2005 a4 and focused mainly on the motor. Keep the a4! Call rpm and let them give you their honest opinion they will know best.

I have NO INTENTION of selling my 05 (A4) as it's a winner.. I do pretty well at the drag strip with it, and I say "If it ain't broke DON'T FIX IT"
I wouldn't worry about consistency.... At Beech Bend 2 weeks ago with my A6 2.56 geared 08. I ran 12.26 12.26 12.26 12.27 and tried powerbraking some and ran a 12.29.
All runs were off a .5 pro tree..
All MPH's were in the 116.70's
Car is completely stock except for a Halltech and Beehive.. 27lbs in rear tires set when cold...
FYI.. with the halltech my car is now about .10-.15 slower than with the stock intake even with correcting for the DA. I'm going back to the stock intake and going to modify the beehive to fit...
