GlobalConnect Message # G_0000205212

May 11, 2015

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern Oil Change Information on 2014-2015 Chevrolet Corvette as stated in the Chevrolet Complete Care Program

Recommendation/Instructions The 2014-2015 Chevrolet Complete Care Program for Corvettes was designed to take into account Mobil1 is the oil of choice for many Corvette owners.

As a reminder, dealers are required to use Mobil 1 when performing oil changes on ALL 2014-2015 Corvettes through the Chevrolet Complete Care Program Current reimbursement levels for Corvette are based on Mobil 1 usage. Please remind all personnel that only Mobil 1 should be used.

In addition, please refer to Global Connect message # G_0000205212 for details on dry sump equipped (Z51, Z52, and Z06) Corvettes.

The non-Z51 Stingrays also receive Mobil1 with the Dexos spec while under the Chevrolet Complete Care program.

The only difference is non-Z51 Stingrays do not receive the 500 mile break-in oil change GM has changed the required maintenance schedule for all 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes equipped with dry sump systems.

The new schedule will require the oil/filter be changed immediately after the break-in period, which occurs after the first 500 miles of operation.

Once the break-in oil change is performed and the Oil Life Monitoring system is reset, customers should follow the Oil Life Monitoring system for all future oil change needs.

Tip: Only use Mobil 1 when performing an oil change on any Corvette under the Chevrolet Complete Care Program.

I hope this guidance also applies to the 2016 cars.

I followed my car to the service bay and watched the oil change. The tech said he they use Mobil 1 only in 2014 to 2016 Corvettes. That's what I watched him put in my car. I asked him to put in only 9 quarts. When I got home I waited 10 minutes and checked the oil which was slightly low. I added 8 ounces and that brought the oil to the top of the hatched area on the dipstick. If the tech had put in the 9.8 quarts as recommended, it would have been overfilled.

So, Big Dave, how does all this work out in regards to the 'Magnuson - Moss Warranty Act' ?

Mobil 1 is what I always have used in my Corvettes and that is what Chevy specifies for the C7's.

I'm hoping my experience is similar at my local dealer.

Just Took a tour of the Tonawanda, N.Y. Engine plant. Very informative, and our tour guide (Mike) was outstanding in his knowledge and friendly professionalism. He mentioned that Mobil1 is what's used in our cars. I almost asked if he'd issue a memo to the dealerships, then thought better of it as those not using Mobil1 by now wouldn't read the memo anyway.

If you're going to use the dealer you bought it from, they told me up front they used M1. I didn't have to ask. I didn't watch them put it in, but I assume they didn't outright lie to me.

I was told by Chevrolet Customer Service (and I'd have done it this way anyway) to call the service manager to make your appt. State that you want ONLY MOBIL 1. That way, everyone knows up front. Why wait until you're there? I had no issues, but I'd presented everything up front when I made the appt. (My Corvette Tech has his own 2014 C7, is the only one who touches my car, put in 9qts. (Z51), gave me a quart back in April which I still have yet to put another ounce in--was overfilled at the factory).
Again, it's up to: YOU, the customer. Like it or not.

But if they weren't going to use it, I would expect them not to mention it at all.

Check your service paperwork. It should specify a GM part number for the oil used. GM Part Number for Mobil 1 is 12345885.

Took my non-Z51 Stingray in for its first oil change. The service manager told me they now use Mobile 1 Dextros all synthetic on all the Corvettes.

They also changed the oil filter and seal, lube, and checked all the fluids and tires, according to the invoice.

Got in and out of there in about 1-1/2 hours.

Interestingly, my Trifecta tune is intact, and they didn't say anything.

Does a base model car tend to run warmer on all synthetic as opposed to regular motor oil or blends?

And what oil does the factory use?

marcuovo...noooooo! This is like nails on the chalk board...

It's MOBIL not mobile. Mobile is a city in Alabama. Mobil is the petroleum giant that makes Mobil 1 oil (among many things) that this thread is all about.

And it's DEXOS not dextros. dexos is a GM spec for oil, and dextros is a form of sugar (less a vowel).

No worries. Just bustin' on ya since your contributions are normally quite astute and on-point (and spelt properly).

No. Why would synthetic make it run warmer, (as long as it's the same viscosity)?

The factory fill on all Corvettes is Mobil 1.

So after one local dealer refusing to give me Mobil 1, I did my own 500 mile oil change. I'm now trying another local dealer. I sent Chevrolet Customer service a PM here telling them where and when I'm bring my car in for service. I figured I'll let them explain to the dealer that I'm entitled to Mobil 1. I also got the Mobil1 oil cap and sticker as well as a copy of the G_0000205212 service bulletin ..lol.
The dealer is already asking me what my oil life percent is. Does anyone have a service bulletin # or info that states that we are allowed to get an oil change no matter what oil life percentage is?? Thanks

For new Z51 or Z06 Corvette owners...
2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes – Additional Required Maintenance..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date: 11/24/2014 Ref. number: Service / Service Operations / G_0000205212
Subject: 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes – Additional Required Maintenance
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To: Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac Dealers
2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes – Additional Required Maintenance
The following message only applies to dry sump Corvettes that have not had their first oil change performed.
Some 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes may experience a condition that leads to oil leaking out from the air cleaner assembly. This condition may be caused by running the engine continuously at a high engine speed with the first factory fill oil, resulting in silicone sealants in the engine’s gaskets degrading the oil’s anti-foaming agents. The oil foam has no effect on the engine’s durability.
Effective Immediately:
GM is changing the required maintenance schedule for all 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes equipped with dry sump systems. The new schedule will require the oil/filter be changed immediately after the break-in period, which occurs after the first 500 miles of operation. Once the break-in oil change is performed and the Oil Life Monitoring system is reset, customers should follow the Oil Life Monitoring system for all future oil change needs.
The 2nd printing of the 2015 Owner Manuals is being updated with this change. These manuals will not be in the glove box material until January 2015. For vehicles produced before this change, and for all vehicles going forward, it is important to notify the customers that a change has been made, and they will need to have the vehicle’s oil changed after the break-in period. Copies of the new maintenance grid will be available on GMPROGRAMINFO.com, under Chevrolet, Resources.
As you are aware, all 2014/2015 Corvettes come with Chevrolet Complete Care which covers 2 years/24,000 miles of select required maintenance. Previously, up to 4 service events were allowed under the program guidelines in the 2-year/24,000-mile period. With the change in the maintenance schedule being effective immediately, an additional oil change allowance will be added to 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes, increasing the amount of coverage to 2 years/24,000 miles, up to 5 service events.
Please make sure all dealership personnel are aware of this change.

To: Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC Dealers
The 2014-2015 Chevrolet Complete Care Program for Corvettes was designed to take into account the preferred Mobil 1 oil choice of many Corvette owners. As a reminder, dealers are required to use Mobil 1 when performing oil changes on ALL 2014-2015 Corvettes through the Chevrolet Complete Care Program. Current reimbursement levels for Corvette are based on Mobil 1 usage. Please remind all personnel that only Mobil 1 should be used. In addition, please refer to GlobalConnect message # G_0000205212 for details on dry sump equipped (Z51, Z52, and Z06) Corvettes.
In the event a customer paid an upcharge for Mobil 1 under the Chevrolet Complete Care Program, customers should be directed to contact Executive CAC at (855) 435-7284 or email helpacustomer@gm.com for reimbursement.

You are sure lucky down south, I just had my 2015 Stingray in for it's first oil changed and asked for my standard Mobil 1. The Service manager stated that un the new Chevy Complete Care Program the only oil approved is DEXTROS and Chevrolet hasn't licensed Mobil 1 as of yet.
So if you wish to void the warranty (Canada) where we don't have any laws to protect us then use the crappy Chevy Semi Syn oil.
