Go get a bottle of Turtle Wax ICE.
It's a polymer based liquid. It's all I use.
Cheap and it shines great. I tried all the Zaino stuff, too much work for the same results.
FWIW, on my C6 used Turtle Wax ICE products because they were easy. One of my product managers parked his C6 (one year older) next to mine at the far end of the 500 car lot! His always looked better than mine, he swore by Zaino.
When I got the C7 I found a way to use Zaino that required no mixing and was easy! Checked with Sal at Zaino via email and he said it was a good way to use the product. Because of my color he recommended I start with Z-5 Polish. I apply it directly from the bottle no mixing. The secret is to use it very sparingly. Zaino says that as do all folks who use it. My 2 ½ year old bottle still has product left, in fact will use it today. If you apply too much (easy to do) it’s hard to get off!
Then after the Z-5, I apply their Z-CS (clear seal) directly over it. According to Sal it sets the Z-5. It too is used sparingly but it’s apply and let dry-no buffing or removal. In fact you can use the Z-CS without the polish, which I do on my black wheels. Takes 5 minutes! Works great.
I had never used Clay Bar before but bought some from Griot’s, clay and spray. Very easy to use. Didn’t do much on the first application IMO but will use today. Again easy to do.
My car is a DD not a show car (have a ’34 Street Rod I bring to shows) so unlike some I only use the products 3 or 4 times per year. Car looks great with just washing in-between.
If it is a coating, maybe, there are some high dollar coatings out there that are basically permanent. But they also require a full polish ahead of time and the right amount of prep work. No dealer will do that for $300. Most "sealants", generally considered a synthetic wax, will generally last 1-12 months, most are $20 or less per bottle. I prefer Menzerna powerlock, but there are plenty of good ones out there. So for $300, heck no, if you lived anywhere near me, I'd do a basic detail and "seal" your car for under $100.
Did they also try to sell Nitrogen for your tires for $200 ?
and the other scam is the security stickers for theft deterence for like $200 ++ about 99.9 dealer profit.
Usually with this sealant, you have to come back every so many months and have them do it again or it doesn't warranty any paint damage. When I bought a car 13 years ago they offered me it here in AZ. Just coming from Illinois, I said to the guy.... Ahh you can't sell undercoating here so you try selling this. He didn't get the joke.
I would pass and find a good local detailer after you take delivery and have them polish and coat it. Yes, it will cost more, but will be done right.
I had my car delivered to me with 5 miles on it, and there were small scratches all over it that needed polished. Your dealer isn't going to polish, they are just going to coat it. They won't even claybar it.
Don't do it.
I clayed and polish my brand new 2015 DSOM Coupe as soon as I got it home. I was very particular and spent over 25 hours prepping it to be coated. Then I coated it myself with 22ple glass coating. Great stuff. I just did the same thing yesterday to a 2016 Cayman GT4.
18 months later and my C7 still looks brand new. It was amazing how many small scratches and imperfection were on a brand new car. I would never coat or seal a car without doing paint correction buffing and an alcohol wipe down first. The dealership is just going seal up all of the scratches.
Looks like everyone pretty much nailed it. Don't waste your money. Even if they use a decent product, chances are their application methods are hilariously awful. Do it yourself.
Wash, clay, seal. I'm using a coating on my Torch Red coupe currently but I've topped it with some Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax just for fun. In the future I'll probably go with some Collinite 845 instead of the coating just because I like the look better. It ain't rocket science and it's a great way to spend some quality time with the car in the garage.
