In the FSM 6A1-5, it states that the new intake gasket should be placed with the blocked opening to be positioned at the front of the engine. When I removed the intake , I took a picture which shows the blocked opening at the rear of engine. Am I reading this wrong, which is correct?
on my 85, the blocked gasket matched with the plugged manifold, at the rear.
i think u have a coolant passage on the front right? is your rear blocked?
the aluminum head variant of the L98 will have a coolant crossover port at the rear of the lower intake. to mlm0, the intake manifold gaskets will have restrictors that go to the REAR of the engine. typo in the FSM. having said that, there are some of us here that use the open port gaskets, without the restrictors, on aluminum head L98's. I did it on my 90, and haven't had any cooling issues of any kind - almost 3 years and 10K miles - temps seem normal. the aluminum versions tend to blow head gaskets at either #7 or #8 cylinders - it just happens to be in proximity of the restrictors. coincidence - ???
