....a spare tire !

I got a flat pulling out of the driveway on drive your Vette to work day and was running late so I just parked it. I finally got around to putting on the spare yesterday.

I have to say I was impressed, I doubt the spare had seen daylight since it was put there at Bowling Green way back in 1989 and it still had 20psi of air in it.

Dumb question though, how are you supposed to get the spare down on the side of the road if the lug wrench is stored inside it ?
I used a socket to lower the spare in the driveway, but I don't think most of us carry one in the car.

I'm not planning on driving on it, just wanted to be able to move it around until I can get new rear tires.

My 89 had the wrench on floor behind the drivers seat. Move the seat forward and look down, it's locked into place with butterfly screw and bracket.

I will have to look, mine is a Vert but they all should be the same I would think. Or I could just RTFM but asking you guys is much more fun.

My buddy got a flat the other day on his 90 and the spare was flat. The situation of the flat will make you cringe !!

He was driving down the road and didn't realize he hit a rubber bungee cord. The "S" hook went into and through the belts of the tire and caused a flat, but that wasn't the worst part. The other end of the bungee cord beat the side of the car up until he was able to get over and stopped. It put several gouges down into the actual fiberglass.

Something to consider when using the space saver spare on the rear.
Drive to far or fast and you'll burn up the LS clutch plates.
Consider swapping it to the front if possible.

When I dropped my original spare on my 84 it was flat but unused and the original jack was still sealed in a bag.

I did something a little different too. I made up a small toolkit that includes a 3/4" socket, ratchet wrench, breaker bar and the jack from a 90's Pontiac Grand Am which I keep behind the seat. Wouldn't do too well to have everything in with the spare if you have a flat in the rear and the car is sitting on the ground. I did check the spare last year to insure it held air though I wouldn't want to go too far on it.

I believe I read on CF that there is a fullsize spare from a newer GM car (a GTO maybe?) that fits our C4 with little to no modification. Can anyone confirm what GM car full size spare Im referring to?

Default Tire wrench

On an 84 the tire wrench is under the hood above the radiator.

flat bed tows are standard on most insurance policies these days. Just call and take it to a tire shop. Many new cars today don't come with a spare. My '05 Chevy SSR only came with a plug in air pump and a can of sealer.
