On my recently purchased 08 Convertible there are some marks on the top. I don't know if the top was put down wet or there was something in the compartment when the top was lowered? I had a 2001 Convertible for many years and others before that and I had not seen this type of marking before.
Any suggestions for addressing this issue without messing up the top?
Yeah my 06' has those marks from the top folding down and against each section. I tried some 303 protectant that I've used on my boat before and it helped some but didn't really take them out.
My 2013 427 convertible also has them, 23K miles, and marks are present even after cleaning and applying RaggTop protection.
Probably more noticeable on darker colored tops than the lighter colored one..........
Must have something to do with how the material folds, or contacts other areas when the top is in the down position in my opinion.
The 03 I had before this one had a Tan top and there were no marks. My 01 had a black top which I put down many times with no marks. This top is black so it does show up. GM must have changed top material?
My '05 had 'em, my '11 has 'em. I have put a slight amount of black paste shoe wax on a rag and rubbed it with good results. I have also used a detailer spray with good results.
Just sayin...
I think its the nature of the beast....something that just happens with time and really nothing you can do about it if you put the top down very much. I use RaggTopp cleaner and protectant on mine, both the former 2009 and the 2011 GS I now have. Don't think I would put detailer spray on it like one of the others suggest, but that's just my opinion.
My 95 never had marks like that. My 07 does. I tried a steamer but that was a temporary fix. As others said that's the nature of the beast. The engineer should have spent more time with the development of the C6 vert top. Another problem is the straps after awhile loses its tension and may eventually graze the back window. Come on corvette engineers do more research.
Mine has similar blemishes. I also see them on another makes, including some high end ones. As posted above, nature of the beast. No doubt there are some compromises in designing an attractive roof line and having it all fold neatly into the boot space available on a sports car
Keep the top up when not driving the car. It will help. My 2000 light oak top looked like crap after awhile. The C6 top is an improvement. One thing you wont get with C6 is a fraying top around the windows as the glass will never hit the top with window indexing. The C5 was a constant pain in this regard!
Keeping the top from wrinkling if you drive around with the top off most of the time is quite the balancing act; which will wear out sooner, the mechanism or the canvas?
I've chosen to keep the top down, unless necessary, thus saving the mechanism (although, it does have thousands of cycles). I don't know which is more expensive to replace, but, knock-wood, it's worked so far, and I don't sweat the creases. Hardly anyone sees them, anyway.
Mine has the same marks and I'm okay with it, just like a couple creases in a good pair of leather shoes (or a seat too I guess). It just happens.
And I'm a complete clean freak when it comes to paint, wheels, engine, etc.
Welll It appears that this is a common issue with the C6! As I stated, I have had convertibles 66, 67, 68, 87, 01, and 03. The 66,67,68, and 01 were black the others were either white or tan. I did not have the mark problem on any of them and all I did was wash them.
As I mentioned in a previous reply, GM must have changed their top fabric? I guess that I will just live with it. Thanks for the responses!
