I plan to at least remove the surge tank and inspect that and hoses closesly. Did you document the diy? Pics? Im determined to find and fix the leak either today or tomorrow so that I can drive this damn thing with confidence lol

I believe his 96 is set up the same way as my 95 and I don't have a Heater valve.. but as mentioned there is an Plastic flow restriction orifice placed inline with a heater hose.. and this could be a source of a leak..

You can rent/borrow a pressure tester from most auto supply houses. Put it on, pressurize the system and look for leaks. This way you won't have to deal with hot coolant.

Looks like i didnt really need the pressure test kit. Just needed daylight haha

Ran the car and low and behold drops of coolant are coming from what looks like a check valve. Question is do the hoses get replaced too??

That looks like the heater flow valve Advance auto $10.99.Maybe new clamps?That is the flow control valve,after second look.I would say yes on hoses.Should probably do complete flush and fill with all new hoses and coolant if you can.Drain block,new knocks etc.

First, give that thing a bath!
Second, replace every hose you can, while you can.

The objective is to never come home on the hook or flatbed.

Yeah, that's the little bastard that cracked on mine; in GM speak VALVE, HTR WAT FLOW CONT W/O HOSE GM part # 10157988; AC Delco # 15-5423;

Hoses ? well they're preformed, so to keep your engine bay neat and to keep your GM all GM, again in GM speak HOSE HTR OTL GM #10262505; and, HOSE HTR INL, includes water control vale and clamps, GM #10157913
