I had a 05 with A Kenwood head unit that had a really good sound. Everything was clear and the bass hit hard. I just bought this 06 with the stock nav head unit and it sounds like ****. You can't tune it to sound worth a crap. Will a dang head unit make that much difference?? I don't think anything else was done to the 05.

I replaced my stock head unit with a Kenwood a few years back and kept the Bose amp/speakers in my '06. IMO it made a huge difference in improving the sound quality. I know some don't like the Bose, but I'm happy with them.

A new head unit is only going to do so much when the speakers themselves suck. I'd suggest giving Dennis at Double D Mods a call and talk to him about your audio goals and budget. He'll get you exactly what you want and need to make the stereo sound great.
Well, I said it before and I'll say it again. In short, yes, a new head unit should dramatically improve your sound quality with the stock Bose speakers. It did in my car. However, what's good enough for me might not be good enough for you. If you're really particular about the level of sound quality, newer better quality speakers will take that improvement to a higher level.
And I must also agree with Wayback, Corsa Sports have dramatically enhanced my overall auditory experience!
Ok, so which would be the best bang for the buck....New speakers? or new Head unit. Neither is cheap so I'm only doing one or the other.
You really could use both, but if you had to choose the speakers would be the one to do.
Do this. Call Dennis at Double D Mods. Let him know your situation and that you'd like to upgrade. Give him your budget and let him do his magic. You'd be surprised at what deals he can come up with for you.

I must agree. I gust got off the phone with Dennis. He picks up the phone himself and in less than a ring.
I ordered a new head unit a few days ago and had s few questions.
Quick and easy. Answered fast and great customer service. And I think my new head unit just arrived as we were on the phone.

The weak link is not the head unit. It's the amp and speakers. The nav head unit actually puts out a clean, flat signal. Tapping into that is the key. A harness like this will give the ability to supply an aftermarket amp or 2 with a clean signal from the factory hu. Add some quality speakers to those amps and you got yourself a great sounding factory hu.

That's an interesting option. Factory nav was the only thing I wanted that my car didn't have. If it did, I would have seriously considered going this route. Does the stock nav head unit have an expanded equalizer compared to the non-nav Bose tone controls?
Wow! I must be the biggest audio Cretan on the planet. I have the base radio and speakers and they sound fine to me. I have considered upgrading to a Kenwood nav unit, but that would be for the nav and the Bluetooth, not the sound quality. Besides, if I want to hear a good, solid bass beat all I have to do is sit in my family room most evenings while my cross the side street neighbor (I have a corner lot) and his two boys work out to chick music. Boom, ba da boom, ba da boom boom boom.

Bluetooth, nav, backup cam, USB and AUX hookups, definitely worth having IMO. And it looks pretty neat, too.

With thes new radios you don't need nav in the head unit. Save a little money on the head unit. Just use your iPhone or android With apple CarPlay it's like the same thing.
That's what I did for my HU I just ordered. Has everything but nav. Saved a bunch
