Just a thought but maybe you can convince yourself after a test drive. I am guessing that's all you need.

 

Funny you should mention this,
When I bought my motor home some years ago I had people telling me to get a older one because "you know how to fix it if it breaks" and I said NO NO NO. The idea of going on vacation is to get away from my job, not take it with me.
The last thing I wanted to be doing on vacation was fixing my camper!!!!

If you can afford it you'd be a fool not to test drive one. I'm in a C5 that I love, but would love the C7 all the more. I just can't afford it, so I linger here to learn more about them so that when the C8 is out, I'll be grabbing the C7 I want.

 

The best of both worlds is clearly one of each - an old one and a new one. I love my '66 for what it is - 427 cu. in. with 390hp and a Holley carburetor. It's finicky at times, noisy, the exhaust smells like they all did prior to catalytic convertors - but I love it.

I also love my '17. It's no muss, no fuss at all. The power is great.

When I started considering purchasing a new Corvette, my wife told me "go for it, you've worked hard all your life and deserve it".

If I were you, I would arrange to drive one for a while. Maybe rent one. I'm betting you'll own a new(er) one. Good luck on your decision.

 

I've got an "old" '76 that I've been doing a rolling restoration on for the past decade. I'm not a mechanic, but have taught myself throughout the process to do all the work for myself. Seems like there is always something that needs repairing or the next project that I'm working on.

I agree with those that say life is too short. I bought a new GS because I wanted a corvette that I could jump into anytime and go have fun . . . when ever!!! I still have the 76 to satisfy my wrenching needs and because it is a nice old vette. Over the next few years, I'm going the have the time of my life traveling across country to different corvette events and getting some track time too!

 

I too am in the same dilemma. My current car is a 2013 Grand Sport, M6. Started with a 1988 C4 and was hooked. Fastest, best handling car I ever owned. After 110,000 miles with only regular maintenance and a transmission rebuild, upgraded to a 1996 Collector Edition. After another 100,000 miles of enjoyment with a rear end rebuild, courtesy of the selling dealer, upgraded to a 2004 Commemorative Edition and another 70,000 miles. I finally decided I wanted some of that "New Technology"! Always had Base Cars. The 2013 Grand Sport with Anniversary Edition was light years away from my other cars. (Notice the pattern: I always bought end of production cars, special editions. Kinks worked out and all the goodies from the previous productions.) Currently at 29,800 miles from new (Oct, 2012), some track exposure - PDX - multiple trips in SE to any curvy road I can get lost on and monthly back road exposure to circulate fluids in the car and me; I am totally in awe of this car! I was fortunate enough to get a ride along with a C7 Grand Sport A8, at Daytona, Road Course and can testify, I ain't seen nothin' yet! Work with a good dealer, get the extended warranties, they can be repurchased at end of term and enjoy the car as if you were 21 again and now have better sense... This time next year I will comment on how much I am enjoying my 2018, 3LT Grand Sport! With Manual Transmission... Don't forget to Wave.

 

Cars are not something you should be talked into! Like Love it Hate that's all on you one mans dream is another mans junk!

I loved my C6 vert I love my C7 Grand Sport Coupe even more but that's me I don't care if you like it or not so I'm not going to sell you on it. If you want to be sold go to a dealer I think driving it will do the trick if not move on!

Yes, the C1 - C6 each have their good points whether it be rarity, design, etc. I loved my 2005 C6 coupe and was especially thankful for the safety technology. I was making a left onto the road I live off of and was creamed by a driver with no headlights on.

Having my car totaled opened the door to purchase a new one. It was just a bit sooner than I had originally planned.

With the C7, it's all about a totally new look, a highly improved interior, more horsepower and loads of really cool technology.

You've got plenty of time to enjoy the car before having to worry about fixing it...or like others have said, buy an extended warranty.

I was contemplating the Stingray. My buddy said, "Steven, you've paid for your daughter's full college, your house is paid for, you have ZERO credit card debt.............BUY THE DAMN CAR! Do something for yourself now."

 

^^^ Funny, we have a credit card that shows our credit score each month. Our score has been 847 every month since last August. My wife walked out the other day and showed me the score for this month is 850 which I believe is the highest possible score.
When we bought our motor home we were in our late 30s and our score was 799, the owner of the RV dealership told us that in his 27 years of ownership we had the highest score he had ever seen for people our age. I asked him how it could be higher, and he said "get older"
We are both 52 now.

You know, maybe it's not such a great idea. Consider the downside. The car is too fast. I think they should only let professional race car drivers buy it, not idiots like me.

So if you're a race car driver, the car may be for you, if you're not it's a sketchy idea.

 

I own two, a C6 and C7.

I gave you my opinion based on what you shared, get an extended warranty and your concern is null.

Buy one with a warranty, enjoy it and don't worry so much!
